A man residing at the Ħal Far Open Centre has pleaded guilty to a series of charges, including harassment, stalking, public intoxication, and breach of the peace, following a disturbing incident in Swieqi.Malta Today reported that Shaheen Mohamad Ali Abdurahman Ajeli Nur, a Sudanese national, admitted to following a woman to her residence on Triq il-Ġiebja. According to Inspector Kelsey Bugeja, the accused forced open the apartment block’s gate, shoved the woman, and followed her inside.Once inside, the situation escalated as the man allegedly removed his trousers. The victim, assisted by another resident, was ultimately able to force him out of the building.Police confirmed that previous complaints had been lodged against the same individual. Upon arrest, the man cooperated with officers but made an attempt to seize a police officer’s weapon while in custody. Due to his highly intoxicated state, he was taken to Mater Dei Hospital for medical treatment. The accused reaffirmed his guilty plea in court. The prosecution recommended an effective prison sentence, citing the seriousness of the offences. Legal aid lawyer Yanika Bugeja, representing Nur, agreed that a custodial sentence—albeit at the lower end—was necessary to support the accused’s rehabilitation, especially in light of his early admission of guilt. No bail request was made. Sentencing is set for 29th July at 12:30pm, before Magistrate Gabriella Vella. The case is being prosecuted by Inspectors Kelsey Bugeja and Jonathan Cassar.•
