Disney is in the middle of one of its most expansive theme park renovation projects it’s ever seen, with numerous rides, attractions, restaurants, stores, and entire lands currently being designed and built.Disney Parks and Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro recently weighed in on all these changes in a new piece from The Hollywood Reporter, revealing he thinks there’s never been a more exciting time than right now for the company.Credit: DisneyRelated: Disney Abruptly Shuts Down ‘Toy Story’ Ride Without Warning, Barricaded From Rest of ParkJosh D’Amaro is specifically excited about the intellectual property Disney can pull from for use inside its theme parks. Guests have seen more and more franchises be added to Disney’s parks over the last decade, the best examples being Pandora  – The World of Avatar and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Both of these lands served as Disney’s answer to Universal’s ever-popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which raised the bar for immersive, themed lands.“There is no other company that invests as aggressively in technology, the Imagineers are still doing it today, and there is no other company that has the physical and digital footprint that we have to deliver those stories and connections to our consumers around the world,” said D’Amaro. “So the Walt Disney Company, by virtue of that collection of IP and technology and platforms, is unrivaled.”D’Amaro also explained that 2025 is one of the most exciting years for Disney and the themed entertainment space as a whole.“I think that there has never been a better time to be in this business. What we’re seeing here is this idea of convergence, where great stories are coming together with cutting edge technology coming together with physical experiences and immersive experiences. That’s what consumers are craving, that’s what they’re looking for.”D’Amaro has also expressed excitement about the major transformations and renovations coming to Disney’s theme parks. Some of these projects have been in the works for a while, though the majority of them were first unveiled during the company’s D23 event in August 2024.Josh D’Amaro took center stage during the event as he revealed Disney’s bold and ambitious plans for its two American theme park resorts. These plans include the construction of new themed lands, the creation of brand-new rides and attractions, as well as a number of other exciting projects. However, it’s very much “out with the old, in with the new” at Disney, as the company also confirmed that multiple fan-favorite attractions and locations would permanently close. Fans already saw the partial closure of DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in early 2025. The rest of the prehistoric area will shut down in 2026.In July this year, fans also said goodbye to Tom Sawyer Island at the Magic Kingdom. This artificial island had become a staple of Disney’s original Florida theme park, and while it was never all that popular, its absence has certainly been felt.Credit: DisneyRelated: Is ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ Heading to Broadway?Josh D’Amaro has also a campaign to run, at least if he wants the keys to the Magic Kingdom. Many see him as a potential successor to longtime CEO Bob Iger. Iger is set to officially retire from his post in 2026. Disney has stated it will announce its new CEO before Iger leaves. While D’Amaro has not said much about the role in public, he certainly makes sense for Disney’s next leader. D’Amaro has already taken charge when it comes to public-facing events like the previously mentioned D23 as well as other tech and industry conferences.Dana Walden, Co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, is also seen as a frontrunner in the race to replace Bob Iger. Are you excited about the future of Disney’s theme parks? The post Josh D’Amaro Says There’s Never Been a Better Time for Disney Amid Mass Closures, Big Changes appeared first on Inside the Magic.
