Thousands of devotees from various districts and neighbouring States took a holy dip in the Cauvery River at Bhavani Kooduthurai, Kodumudi, and Karungalpalayam to pay obeisance to their ancestors on the occasion of Aadi Amavasya on Thursday (July 24, 2025).The annual observance is a significant tradition during which people perform rituals to honour their ancestors. At the bathing ghat near the Sangameswarar Temple in Bhavani, devotees gathered from the early hours of the morning, resulting in traffic congestion around the temple area. They performed rituals in memory of the departed souls along the riverbank.Similar scenes were witnessed at the Kodumudi Sangameswarar Temple, where hundreds of devotees took holy baths and offered special prayers. In Erode city, devotees also assembled at the Karungalpalayam bathing ghat to perform rituals.As the Cauvery River witnessed a discharge of 18,000 cusecs, temple authorities advised devotees to exercise caution while bathing in the river.Published - July 24, 2025 12:41 pm IST
