A four-way battle to be named the Cleveland Browns stating quarterback is underway. The team that finished with the joint-worst NFL record last season have planned to use training camp to evaluate their options in Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders.A four-way battle for the Browns quarterback role has startedGettyIn the first four-day practice stretch, before the Browns have an off day, head coach Kevin Stefanski said there is a plan in place for the quarterback order and reps that each candidate takes. They will use the time off to re-assess reps for the following week of practice, but any final decision on who will start in Week 1 is still a way off.“I have a plan that’s in pencil, and we have to take in information every single day, take in how guys are handling certain situations, and then adjust from there,” Stefanski said this week.“But we’ll get to those types of decisions later on. I think the big thing for me is putting our guys in a position where we can evaluate them. I think they did a great job in the spring.“All four of those guys, I will continue to put them in some situations, but ultimately, we’d love to make decisions sooner than later.”While Stefanski has stressed that all four QBs will get their chance to impress, day one of camp didn’t go as planned for Sanders. The rookie, who suffered an all-time NFL Draft slide in April, has been making plenty of noise this summer. He was one of the highest-rated college stars, playing under father and Pro-Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders for the Colorado Buffaloes, and had dreams of being the face of a franchise. But now, Shedeur finds himself locked in competition with three other quarterbacks, and his stock took a further hit in practice on Wednesday. The 23-year-old QB, who already left fans worried with his throwing technique, completed just three of his eight passes during team drills and did not throw a touchdown.Sanders struggled with his passing on day one of training campGettyIn comparison, Flacco completed all five of his attempts — although he didn’t take any 11-on-11 reps — while Pickett and Gabriel went six for seven. The latter, also a rookie, was the only of the four signal callers to throw a touchdown on day one.In the 11-on-11 action, Cleveland’s set-up mirrored minicamp, with Pickett leading the first-team offense, Gabriel handled the second team, and Sanders in charge of the third.Fans share Sanders fear after ‘worst day’ at Browns training campSanders’ lower completion percentage, which came against the third string, will be a cause for concern, with some fans already taking to social media to share their thoughts on the stats that have emerged.“Shedeur’s worst day so far. I hope he’s not letting the situation get to him. He has to stay sharp for a potential trade at some point. He can’t let them break him,” one said.“He simply didn’t look locked in today. First time in a while where a defence put pressure on him and things just didn’t go well unfortunately,” another claimed.Sanders completed only three of his eight passes in practice on WednesdayGetty“Numbers don’t lie about who handled the pressure today,” another wrote.Others, however, were quick to point out that stats coming out of training camp, especially this early, mean very little and that Sanders can still very much ‘bounce back’.Deion Sanders tipped to visit Browns practice after watching son ShiloWhile day one might not have unfolded how Shedeur had hoped, he’s set to get a visit from dad Deion soon. The Buffs coach took a trip to Florida to watch another of his sons, Shilo, out on the field for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday. It marked the first time he was out in a non-formal public setting since he announced he was dealing with a health issue.‘Coach Prime’ made clear his intention to visit both of his boys in training camp, and now he has seen Shilo, he is expected to take a trip to Berea, Ohio, in the coming days.If he is able to come down and watch from the sidelines, Shedeur will be hoping for an improved performance in front of his old man.Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our NFL Facebook page, subscribe to our talkSPORT End Zone YouTube channel for all the offseason news, interviews and more
