Sorry, this popped up in my feed. It's nice you're trying to give back and help. I don't understand the umbrellas. It's jarring when most people I know, myself included, live paycheck to paycheck. I can't imagine having the time or space to grow my own food. I suppose I could, but I don't have the finances needed to engineer it. Let alone the time to tend it. While I think anyone who acts the way you described is horrific and feels they are entitled and shouldn't get anything. When you live in a gated community and you are leaving food for people outside your gates. Without seeing them or having any involvement... it kind of feels like virtue signaling. You are making sure you are doing it on public sites. So all your neighbors can see you are putting food outside the gate for the poor. Why not donate it to local food banks? That way, you do not have to deal with things like this.
