Just a few months before the COVID-19 pandemic began spreading across the world, The Walt Disney Company launched its very own streaming platform, Disney+. Disney+ is the ultimate streaming platform for fans of the Mouse House, full of classic and modern movies, television shows everyone in your family will love, and some truly amazing original programming like The Mandalorian, Loki, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Imagineering Story, and so many more.Credit: DisneyRelated: Disney Quietly Edits ‘Aladdin,’ ‘Bluey,’ and More To Appease Modern AudiencesIn the nearly six years since its launched, Disney+ has amassed more than 120 million subscribers and is available in 150 countries, spreading the magic of Disney to every corner of the world.Unfortunately, Disney+ has experienced more than its fair share of struggles. While the platform did see initial success, largely due to people being stuck at home during the pandemic, Disney+ struggled to hold onto those subscribers and make money off of them. In fact, in the first four years of its launch, Disney+ cost the company more than $11 billion. These losses were so significant that investors even filed a lawsuit against former Disney CEO Bob Chapek for misleading them about the health of the streaming platform and the number of subscribers it really had.Credit: DisneyRelated: Bob Chapek Said His “Disney Family” Stopped Him From Suing CompanyWhen Bob Iger returned as CEO in 2022, one of his priorities was to make Disney+ financially successful, something that he achieved two years later through extreme budget cuts and show cancellations.Iger and the rest of the Disney+ team are always looking for ways to make the streamer more popular and more profitable, and in 2024, they launched live channels, called Stream. Subscribers could watch ABC programming live on Disney+, and younger viewers could enjoy Disney+ Playtime, featuring a lot of kid-friendly entertainment, including Bluey, The Lion Guard, and Puppy Dog Pals. And now, Disney adults and millennials have a live channel dedicated to the shows they grew up with and remember fondly.
