‘Wouldn’t put it past them’ – Cleveland Browns conspiracy theory emerges as fresh footage surfaces over ‘staged’ cameraman mishap

Wait 5 sec.

The Cleveland Browns’ new helmet reveal got off to a rough start… or did it? The Browns were unveiling their new brown alternate helmet that they have called ‘Alpha Dawg’ with a huge inflatable version of it sitting aboard a raft on Lake Erie. The Browns cameraman appeared to take a dive into the water after misstepping on the raftX/ @CLElaytownHowever, a team photographer or member of the Browns’ social media team who was filming the helmet reveal up close stole the limelight as he misstepped and plunged into the water. But with two mascots also aboard, their reactions to the dramatic plunge appeared to look too rehearsed, which has prompted some to theorize that the whole debacle was actually staged. Footage of the incident surfaced on social media and quickly went viral. It was even subjected to discussion on ESPN’s new SC+ show with Gary Striewski and Randy Scott. “We’re in the age of trying to capture content and buddy over there forgot to check his footing and caught himself a little bath in the most Browns way possible,” Striewski said on the broadcast, via @steelersdepot on X (formerly Twitter).  “Will that be an identification of how their season’s gonna be?”When asked by Striewski whether he thought it was staged, Scott answered: “Some reports are saying it was staged. “I would not put it past [them] because people love to go trending.“But you know what, guy? We’re not even going to say your name. I mean, look, I don’t know what to believe anymore.”Another argument explaining why many are theorizing that it was a staged act is that the Browns are working with Dude Wipes, a sanitary product brand, as can be seen in an alternate angle of the incident.Nonetheless, it made for tremendous viewing, and put the Browns organization back in front and center of the NFL spotlight, as they have been for much of the off-season. A Browns cameraman took an unexpected dip in the lake and can still be seen trying to film as he plunges into the waterX/ @CLElaytownCleveland’s quarterback battle is heating upComing off a lowly 3-14 record in the 2024 NFL season, tied for the league’s worst record with the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants, much of the talk of the offseason so far has been about the Browns’ quarterback room. Having reunited with veteran Joe Flacco, who led the Browns to the playoffs in 2023 before departing for the Indianapolis Colts, and trading with the Philadelphia Eagles for former first-round pick Kenny Pickett, the Browns also used two of their seven 2025 draft picks on quarterbacks. First came Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, who the Dawg Pound opted to select with the 94th overall pick in the third round. Then, with their final pick in the fifth round, they saw that projected first-rounder Shedeur Sanders was still on the board, so they gambled on taking him, in a move that the other 31 teams in the league were not willing to take. Now the Browns have four quarterbacks on their depth chart, and that is excluding $230 million Deshaun Watson, who will be out for the 2025 campaign following a torn Achilles suffered in 2024. Much of the media attention has been centered around Flacco and Sanders battling it out to be QB1GettyDillon Gabriel is very much a dark horse for the starting jobGettyTherefore, the battle to be Cleveland’s starting quarterback for Week 1 has already begun heating up. ‘Flacco Fever’ is still very much a thing in Cleveland, with the 40-year-old making the admission that he is with the team to be the starter, and not as a mentor to the two rookies on the roster. However, Gabriel has particularly impressed in the first few outings at training camp, due to his quick processing time and decision-making – two key attributes the Browns are searching for from their starting – and potentially franchise – quarterback. As a result of absorbing so much of the information from the coaching staff, the former Oregon standout has been able to take on more advanced play calls than Sanders. Although Gabriel is very much now considered a dark horse in the battle to be QB1, Sanders’ light hasn’t completely diminished, with his passing accuracy a particular strength of his. Sanders – the son of NFL legend Deion – completed 71.8 percent of his 907 pass attempts when playing at collegiate level for the Colorado Buffaloes. His determination to step out onto an NFL field hasn’t gone unnoticed either, with him having showcased his dedication to the grind by working with a specialist quarterback coach, and partaking in midnight workout sessions. Now with training camp in full swing, the battle of the quarterbacks continues, and will be one to firmly keep an eye on with pre-season fast approaching.Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our NFL Facebook page, subscribe to our talkSPORT End Zone YouTube channel for all the offseason news, interviews and more.
