Not Ready for Primetime? Test Track Faces Multiple Downtimes During Its First Two Days Open to the Public

Wait 5 sec.

Last week, Disney announced that its updated version of Test Track would have a two-day soft opening before officially opening to the public on July 22. Disney hoped this would avoid some of the controversy that surrounded its last major ride opening, but it was not to be.Credit: DisneyWhen Tiana’s Bayou opened to select groups, the prevailing narrative was that the ride continually malfunctioned and the animatronics kept breaking down. While the animatronic problem still hasn’t been addressed, Disney could not change the narrative about the ride, and to a certain extent, these issues have marred people’s feelings about the ride and probably always will. While the early reviews for Test Track 3.0 have been primarily positive in early previews, when the ride opened to the public on Wednesday, not even the soft opening could spare the ride from some embarrassing moments. Test Track opened with a 150-minute wait on its opening day, as guests ran to experience the new ride at rope drop. While the long wait times were to be expected, as Test Track has stayed above 90 minutes for most of the last three days, several extended periods of downtime for the new attraction extended those wait times. On its opening day, Test Track was down twice, once in the morning and again in the afternoon. On its second day of operation, the new ride was down for about an hour in the early afternoon, returned to action for about an hour, and then was down again for another hour plus. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the ride had issues. It could be something a guest did on the ride that forced an extended downtime.Credit: Lee (myfrozenlife), FlickrOn Thursday, its third day of operation, Test Track appears to be operating normally with a 90-120 minute wait throughout the day. However, that doesn’t mean it can’t/won’t break down later in the day. While it’s just been two full days, it’s not a good sign that Test Track can’t hold up to the rigors of a Disney World audience after a year-long renovation. What are your thoughts on the updated Test Track?
