dfcu Bank has secured a significant procedural victory in the ongoing legal battle before the English High Court, where it faces allegations brought by Crane Bank Limited (CBL) and associated parties. While the full trial is set for October 2026, the Court recently issued rulings on crucial pre-trial procedural matters largely in dfcu’s favor.During a case management conference, the Court did not address the substantive claims in the lawsuit, which centers on the acquisition and management of CBL. Instead, the session focused on disclosure obligations and the exchange of evidence between the parties. In a notable development, the Court found that the Claimants led by CBL and its former owners had not fully complied with their evidence disclosure responsibilities. As a result, the Court granted several of dfcu’s requests for additional document searches and disclosures.Among the Court’s directives was an order for businessman Sudhir Ruparelia to submit his mobile phone for forensic analysis by independent experts, to determine whether it contains documents relevant to the case. Additionally, Sheena Ruparelia was instructed to disclose documents from her personal email account. In a further boost for dfcu, the Court rejected a motion by the Claimants to exclude a series of reports compiled by auditing firm PwC. dfcu had argued that the reports are central to its defense, providing evidence of alleged mismanagement by CBL’s former leadership and justifying the Bank of Uganda’s intervention in the troubled financial institution.dfcu Bank welcomed the rulings, describing them as a positive step toward a fair and transparent trial. The bank has consistently dismissed the claims against it as unfounded and reiterated its intention to defend itself vigorously.“We maintain that the case has no merit and are fully prepared to continue cooperating with the legal process,” dfcu said in a statement. “dfcu Bank remains committed to upholding the highest ethical standards and adhering to international best practices in all its operations.”The case, which has attracted significant attention in Uganda and abroad, stems from the controversial 2017 takeover of CBL by the Bank of Uganda and the subsequent transfer of assets to dfcu. With the trial date set for late 2026, the latest court rulings mark an important milestone in the high-profile legal proceedings. The post Sudhir in tears as dfcu Bank Wins Key Procedural Ruling in English High Court Case Involving Crane Bank appeared first on The Insider.
