SITUATION UPDATE• Heavy monsoon rains have been lashing the Jammu region since July 21, severely impacting districts such as Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, and parts of Doda. On Monday, a landslide struck the Vaishno Devi track in Reasi, leading to the death of a pilgrim and injuring several others, including a police officer.• A flash flood alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which released a guidance bulletin warning of a low to moderate risk of flash floods across ten districts—Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi, Jammu, Rajouri, and Poonch—for the next 24 hours.• In Poonch district, particularly at Bainch Kalsan village, a government-run school was hit by a massive landslide, resulting in the death of a minor student and injuries to four others. Another landslide caused part of the boundary wall of an army camp in Rajouri to collapse onto private vehicles.• Multiple landslides triggered by continuous rainfall disrupted transportation networks across the region. The Jammu–Poonch National Highway was briefly blocked, and several interior roads in Rajouri and Poonch were cut off. In the Mendhar subdivision, a culvert was washed away in the Chatral area, isolating nearly half a dozen remote villages.• Flash floods have also been reported in several parts of Rajouri, prompting authorities to advise people to avoid venturing into vulnerable zones.• In response to rising water levels in the Chenab River, the administration opened all the gates of the Salal Dam in Reasi on Tuesday to regulate the flow and prevent further downstream flooding.• In Doda district, heavy rainfall was recorded in several parts of the city early Wednesday morning, although major damages are yet to be confirmed. Vehicular movement on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway has been suspended following a flash flood and mudslide near T2 Canopy in the Magerkote area of Ramban district.
