(Express Archives)With an aim to honour the legacy of the state’s notable personalities, the Punjab gov in the past three years has renamed 115 state-run schools after such personalities including freedom fighters, martyrs and internationally acclaimed athletes, said Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains, Monday.The Minister of School Education said that the education department on July 18 renamed 25 government schools after freedom fighters and martyrs while the chief minister Bhagwant Mann has announced that the school in Beas village of Jalandhar who died recently at the age of 114. Fauja Singh is regarded as the oldest person and the first centenarian marathoner.Addressing the media, Bains said that the government has also decided to display pictures and life-histories of these notable personalities in the schools named after them to inspire students with their great sacrifices and contributions, while honouring their legacy appropriately.Renaming schools after them would inspire students through the stories and sacrifices of these great individuals, said Bains adding that the government renamed the Government High School in Khatkar Kalan village to Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Govt High School in 2023.“We are making efforts to honour our martyrs and other eminent personalities who made Punjab proud,” he added.Bains stated that the school education department, along with subject experts, is making a curriculum to sensitise students against the ill-effects of drugs.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Bhagat Singh
