JJ Watt takes swipe at Jerry Jones over Dallas Cowboys owner’s brutal dig over $280 million duo

Wait 5 sec.

The Cowboys owner is doing what he does best.Jerry Jones has opened his mouth, and to the surprise of no one, what came out of it has made headlines for all the wrong reasons.X/@MYSPORTSUPDATEJones spoke to the media ahead of training camp[/caption]It’s no secret that Cowboys star defender Micah Parsons is looking for a massive contract extension. One that he rightfully deserves. Both Jones and Parsons haven’t been quiet about how they feel about the contract negotiations and what they each believe is fair.As the Cowboys report to training camp on Monday, Jones spoke to the media and took a few stray shots towards Parsons’ direction, even if what he said was factually incorrect.“Just because we sign him doesn’t mean we’re gonna have him. He was hurt six games last year. Seriously,” Jones said.Parsons missed four games last year, not six. But who’s counting?“Contracts are four, five years, OK? There’s a lot of water under the bridge if you step out there and do something in the first two or three,” Jones continued.“You can get hit by a car, seriously. So there’s a lot to look at over a lot of years that could make a big difference. Have you ever heard of any clubs committing to players and then they didn’t pan out after they committed to them? We have.”Jones then shifted his attention towards franchise quarterback Dak Prescott. He didn’t hold back his thoughts when it came to his quarterback and everything that has transpired since signing him to a four-year, $240 million extension, $231 million of it guaranteed.“I remember signing a player for the highest-paid position in the league and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year,” Jones said.“Dak Prescott. So there’s a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does, when you’re thinking about committing and guaranteeing money.”Prescott is hoping to rebound from an injury-shortened 2024 campaignGettyParsons is in line for the next record-breaking deal by a non-quarterbackGettyWatt didn’t hold back when going after JonesGettyTo recap, that’s Jones taking unsolicited shots at his star $280 million duo. Parsons is in the last year of his $40 million rookie deal, hence wanting the extension. One former player didn’t like the way that Jones was talking about his star duo. That player being three-time Defensive Player of the Year and future Hall of Famer, J.J. Watt.“Anytime you can publicly take a dig at your star quarterback and your star pass rusher simultaneously, right before the season begins, you just gotta take it,” Watt wrote on X.“Nothing makes guys want to fight for you more than hearing how upset you are that they got hurt while fighting for you.”Parsons has since reposted Watt’s message.Watt is right. There was absolutely no reason for Jones to go after his two star players. If they have any Super Bowl aspirations at all, which offensive lineman Tyler Smith said they firmly do, then they are going to need both Prescott and Parsons to be playing their best ball. It’s Groundhog Day once again in Dallas. On the plus side for Cowboys fans, it has been reported that Parsons has reported to training camp, even without a new deal. There may be good news on the horizon, even if Jones inexplicably attacked him.
