Something went very wrong at The Most Magical Place on Earth—and it wasn’t because of a broken ride or a long Lightning Lane queue.A Rhode Island woman says her dream vacation to Walt Disney World turned into a terrifying medical emergency at Magic Kingdom’s Be Our Guest restaurant. Now, she’s suing Disney for an incident that she says ended up in a three-day hospitalization.Credit: DisneyDining in the Beast’s CastleBefore we get into the details of the lawsuit, it’s important to understand where this incident happened. Be Our Guest is one of Disney World’s most immersive and popular restaurants. Located inside Magic Kingdom, the dining experience transports guests into the world of Beauty and the Beast (1991), letting them dine in the grand ballroom, the spooky West Wing, or the Beast’s private study. It can be a tough reservation to score depending on the time of year you visit, partly because the food tends to lean upscale for theme park fare—and it’s also known for accommodating food allergies with designated allergen-free menus and trained staff.Disney is no stranger to handling dietary needs. Guests with food allergies are encouraged to alert their server and can even speak with a chef when necessary. The company has built a reputation around safety and hospitality, especially for families with special health needs. That’s what makes this incident so shocking.Credit: DisneyA Night at the Hospital Instead of the ParkAccording to a lawsuit filed in Orange County on July 3, 2025, 25-year-old Mae Bodziony informed her server of her life-threatening tree nut allergy before ordering from the allergen-friendly menu. The server reportedly reassured her the meal was safe, even as bread and salad were brought to the table. Moments after eating the salad, however, Mae’s lips became itchy. She took two Benadryl, but her reaction quickly worsened. The lawsuit states that her throat began to swell, and she used an EpiPen while waiting for an ambulance. Disney staff escorted her to the Beast’s study—a less public area of the restaurant—until emergency services arrived. She was then transported to AdventHealth Celebration Hospital, where things got even more serious.A Frightening Medical EmergencyMae’s allergic reaction escalated into what’s known as a biphasic anaphylactic episode, which involves a second wave of symptoms even after treatment. Doctors administered multiple rounds of epinephrine, intravenous steroids, and other medications, according to the lawsuit. She ended up staying in the hospital from August 19 to August 23, undergoing constant monitoring, treatment for chest pain, and multiple rebound reactions.Mae’s family claims Disney never contacted them to check on her condition, even though the situation involved a potential life-threatening emergency. The family’s travel agency allegedly had to reach out on their behalf. Hospital charges reportedly exceeded $40,000, and the family had to pay out-of-pocket for extended rental car and flight change fees.Credit: DisneyNot Disney’s First Allergy LawsuitThe emotional toll, they say, was just as high. The family spent three days wondering if their daughter would survive, all while trying to make sense of how this could have happened at a restaurant that prides itself on allergy awareness. This isn’t the first time Disney has faced legal trouble over allergy-related incidents. In a separate case, a woman reportedly died after dining at Raglan Road in Disney Springs in 2024. While that venue is independently operated, the wrongful death lawsuit is still ongoing—and it places renewed scrutiny on how Disney handles allergy protocols across property. As of now, Disney has not publicly commented on the new lawsuit involving Mae Bodziony. For many, Disney World is a place where you can let your guard down and enjoy the magic. Stories like this serve as a reminder that even the most carefully laid plans can go sideways—and for those with severe allergies, extra vigilance may still be required. The post Woman Hospitalized After Allegedly Eating “Contaminated” Food at Disney World appeared first on Inside the Magic.
