Gus Poyet has urged Tottenham Hotspur to make a move for a Champions League-winner, insisting that he would bring valuable experience and flair to Thomas Frank’s young side.Tottenham Hotspur have consistently been linked with a move for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish. Many supporters of the Lilywhites may argue that the ideal moment to have secured the Englishman was back in 2018, when chairman Daniel Levy attempted to prise him away from Aston Villa. At the time, Villa were gripped by financial turmoil and appeared likely to sell their prized asset to ease their cash-flow problems. However, Tottenham’s efforts to land Grealish fell well short. An opening offer of £3 million plus Joshua Onomah was swiftly rejected, and a follow-up bid of £25 million was also turned down after a takeover at Villa resolved their monetary concerns.Photo by PAUL ELLIS/AFP via Getty ImagesGus Poyet backs Jack Grealish to succeed at TottenhamIt was reported recently that Tottenham are one of four Premier League clubs interested in taking Jack Grealish on loan from Manchester City. However, just days later, those links appeared to cool, with claims suggesting that Spurs were no longer expected to press ahead with a deal for Grealish, after holding internal discussions over a move for the 29-year-old this summer.Speaking to OLGB, Gus Poyet has now openly expressed his desire to see Grealish make the switch to north London. The former Spurs midfielder believes the 29-year-old possesses the kind of quality and experience that would elevate the current squad. He said: “I hope so. I think the quality, the characteristics, the ability – everything is there. Then it depends on how the team plays and what the manager asks of you – these are different things.“At Villa, he was playing okay on the left, but sometimes free, and he was able to do many things his own way. Then he went to Man City and had a role. You need to stay on the left, you need to wait, you need not to lose the ball, you need to pick the right moment to go 1-v-1. When you change teams, you need to adapt to that.“The quality and the experience is there, so I would expect Grealish to do well in the Premier League at Spurs.”Spurs shifted focus to Mohammed Kudus over GrealishIt has since been reported that Thomas Frank did not approve a move for Jack Grealish, despite Tottenham’s longstanding admiration of the winger.Instead, Spurs have turned their attention to younger targets and have secured the signing of Mohammed Kudus for £55 million. The Ghanaian offers versatility and creativity, with an ability to operate both out wide and centrally – attributes that are not dissimilar to those of Grealish. With the former Aston Villa man approaching his 30s, and Spurs prioritising younger, high-ceiling talents, it is difficult to envisage a scenario where the club’s decision-makers greenlight a deal for the England midfielder.READ MORE: Tottenham Hotspur will face former players in their next four pre-season fixturesThe post Gus Poyet names Champions League-winning midfielder he wants Tottenham to sign appeared first on Spurs Web.
