A lot is changing at Walt Disney World. Let’s take a look.Credit: DisneyRelated: Untold Expert Secrets Revealed After Riding Disney’s Once in a Lifetime Safari AttractionWalt Disney World opened in 1971, forever changing the theme park industry. In the 50+ years since, guests have seen the resort change in fascinating ways, namely with the arrival of new lands and attractions. While Disney World has a long and rich history, some of the resort’s biggest changes have occurred in just the last decade. In 2017, Pandora – The World of Avatar opened at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This incredibly immersive and highly detailed land transports guests into the fictional alien world seen in the Avatar films. In 2019, Walt Disney World said hello to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, another breathtaking, immersive world for guests to explore, only this time inspired by Disney’s Star Wars sequel trilogy. Both of these expansions have proven very popular among travelers and are often the most crowded areas of their respective parks. However, what Disney has in store going forward tops nearly everything else the company has done in Florida, and maybe even in all of its parks.Credit: DisneyRelated: Hundreds of Guests Gather to Wave Tearful Goodbye to Liberty Square RiverboatStarting with Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the movie-themed park is getting a new land based on Pixar’s Monsters Inc. This new area will be called Monstropolis and will feature a number of new locations and attractions to enjoy, namely a suspended roller coaster. This new land will take over the space formerly called Muppets Courtyard, which closed permanently this summer.Disney’s Animal Kingdom is getting upgrades, too. DinoLand U.S.A., the park’s prehistoric-themed land, faced a partial closure in January, leaving only half of the area open. The second half will close in 2026 as work begins on the park’s new Tropical Americas area. This new land will bring with it several new locations and attractions, including a ride based on Encanto. DINOSAUR, the area’s big “E-ticket” thrill ride, will be retrofitted into an Indiana Jones adventure.Magic Kingdom is facing perhaps the most notable changes of all the parks. In July 2025, Magic Kingdom said goodbye to the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat. These experiences will eventually give way to a new area named Piston Peak based on Pixar’s Cars franchise.Any one of these projects is monumental on its own, but when combined, fans are looking at perhaps the most exciting and uncertain time in Walt Disney World history. This then begs the question: Does Disney know what it’s doing?Obviously, what Disney says goes, but one has to wonder if the company was prepared for all of the backlash and criticism it has faced over the closure of historic areas such as Tom Sawyer Island and Muppets Courtyard. Fans showed up in droves for the final days of Muppet*Vision 3D and the Liberty Square Riverboat, just like they most likely will when DINOSAUR closes next year.Disney World isn’t the only theme park set to receive major changes, as Disneyland Park in California will be getting upgrades too. Disney confirmed earlier this year that Disneyland will, in fact, be getting its own version of Pandora. This was teased by Disney a while ago, again, proving to be quite a controversial addition. To make way for its West Coast Pandora, Disneyland will be closing several locations and experiences, including Monsters Inc. Mike & Sully to the Rescue. The internet is typically the worst place to go for constructive feedback and balanced opinions, but it’s safe to say Disney has never faced as much pushback as it has over its current Florida plan. There are definitely outliers, like Magic Kingdom’s proposed Villains land, but it seems like a decent chunk of fans are split about what’s in store.Considering Disney’s track record, fans shouldn’t worry, though. Over the last decade, Disney has delivered a number of incredible rides and attractions. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is often considered one of, if not Disney’s best roller coasters to date.Magic Kingdom’s TRON Lightcycle / Run is also an incredibly popular coaster.Looking back at Pandora and Galaxy’s Edge, Disney certainly knows what it’s doing when it comes to themed and immersive lands. What do you think about the upcoming changes at Walt Disney World? The post Closures, Cars, and Demolition – Are You Ready for What Disney World Is Doing? appeared first on Inside the Magic.
