No pain, no gain.British athletics star Max Burgin celebrated a new personal best in the 800m via the rather unfashionable manner of a post-race spew.World AthleticsBurgin could reach out and touch the finish line for his fastest-ever time[/caption]The 23-year-old finished third in his race at the Diamond League meet in London as he crossed the line with an impressive time of 1:42:36.Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who won the same event at last year’s Paris Olympics, finished first with a time of 1:42:00.Marco Arop, the reigning world champion, rounded out the podium thanks to his time of 1:42:22.Given the star power on offer in his race and the fact he finished eighth in the same event at last year’s Games, Burgin was understandably delighted with his performance.“Very proud of that race,” Burgin said.“It was a bit of a change in how I had been running things this year. I was able to get out at the front of the pack rather than getting swamped for the first time all season.“I was able to hang on to Wanyonyi, who was obviously going for a very fast time. Lost it a little bit towards the end. I just let him get away with 200, 100 (metres) to go.“But it was a PB by a second for me, so I can’t really complain too much.”The fact Burgin recorded his personal best at the London Stadium made it all the more special, even if the conditions earlier in the day hadn’t been optimal.“If there was a place to run your PB, it’d be here, wouldn’t it,” Burgin added.Burgin rounded out the podium during the men’s 800m Diamond League eventAction Images via Reuters“Home crowd, full, packed-out stadium.“Even the rain stopped for the race, which is lovely. Getting a little bit of a splash off the track from the inside lane coming down the home straight, but it was a bit refreshing if anything.”However, things would quickly become not-so-refreshing for the Yorkshireman after he crossed the line.In what has become a less-than-ideal tradition, Burgin vomited.Surprisingly, he admitted his latest effort ‘was actually a good one’ in terms of the volume ejected from his mouth.“I’ve come round in 20 minutes, it’s taken me a lot longer than that before,” Burgin said.ColorsportThe 23-year-old once again engaged in what’s become a grim post-race tradition[/caption]“I don’t know what it is, but I just get really bad nausea and headaches after these races.“Must be something to do with how I process lactic [acid].“I’d take that response every day to run times like that.”
