Patrick Reed has not given up hope of a place on Team USA for this year’s Ryder Cup. The former Masters champion finds himself way outside the six automatic places in 37th on the US standings – largely because LIV Golf events are not awarded qualification points.Reed was among the first wave of big names to leave the PGA Tour for LIV Golf in 2022GettyHowever, Reed has quietly been enjoying a strong season, finishing third at the Masters in April and winning LIV’s Dallas event in June. The 34-year-old, who became known as ‘Captain America’ during his three Ryder Cup appearances, is eligible for a captain’s pick. And speaking exclusively to talkSPORT.com – Reed reveals he has spoken to skipper Keegan Bradley about the possibility of being on the team. “You never know,” he said. “I’ve talked to him a little bit – and I just know the easiest way for me to get on that team is to continue playing some good golf.“If I continue to have opportunities late on Sundays to win golf tournaments, that’ll give me an opportunity to get on the team. “Really, at this point, it’s up to me going out and playing some really good golf, and hoping to get a captain’s pick.”New York plays host to this year’s edition of the Ryder Cup – and many expect Europe to face an intimidating and hostile atmosphere. Reed knows how to raise a crowd – and this is a golfer well-accustomed to frosty receptions. When asked whether there is a case for putting his particular personality on the team, Reed said: “For sure. “Being a guy who has actually won there at Bethpage and knowing how intense the crowds can be – for both sides. They love to get behind guys that are winning golf tournaments and guys that are leading. “You have to have a certain type of personality and mental strength to compete.“I feel like, with what I’ve done at Ryder Cups, my record through them has been really solid, and because of that I feel like I’d bring a lot of passion that they like to see out there in Bethpage.”US captain Bradley has already confirmed Reed’s fellow LIV Golfer Bryson DeChambeau will be on the team in September. DeChambeau, who has become one of the world’s most popular golfers thanks to his exploits on YouTube, will be expected to play a similar role to Reed in terms of atmosphere.Speaking after a T10 finish at The Open on Sunday, DeChambeau promised to hit Europe with a ‘tsunami’ of crowd energy. DeChambeau will be back in Team USA colours in SeptemberGetty“He’ll bring all he has,” Reed said. “He’ll be out there grinding. There is no quit in Bryson.“And he can make that golf course pretty short. Whether it’s best ball, or alternate shot, there’s a lot of strengths and advantages for him being on the team.“Hopefully we can do our job well and put ourselves in a position to be picked and bring both of us over there to help the US win the cup.” Having missed the cut at The Open, Reed returns to the golf course for LIV Golf UK at JCB Golf and Country Club on Friday. “The crowds here are unbelievable,” Reed said. “Especially last year when I played with [Ian] Poulter. You had the whole Ryder Cup vibes. Europe and USA going back and forth. “It brought back a lot of old memories of playing against him in Ryder Cups. It had that awesome feel when we were out there playing.”With Team USA looking top-heavy and Bradley pondering over whether to pick himself, Reed’s hopes of rekindling those memories might not be dead just yet.
