‘Shilpa Shirodkar has been shot dead was a publicity stunt’: Actor recalls 25 missed calls from ‘worried’ parents after her death rumours

Actor Shilpa Shirodkar has seen several ups and downs in her film career. Before her struggling period in the industry, false rumours of her death circulated during the shoot of her 1995 film Raghu Veer. In a recent interview, Shilpa recalled that her parents got worried while she was shooting in Manali. She also revealed that it was producer Gulshan Kumar’s idea to use the rumours of her being shot dead as a promotional technique.During a conversation with Pinkvilla, the actor revisited the time when she wasn’t aware about the speculation. After the release of her film Bewafa Sanam, the rumours of her death started doing rounds. “I was in Kullu Manali. My dad was trying to call the hotel, because we didn’t have mobile phones at that time. I was shooting with Suniel Shetty there. My parents were worried, there was a headline in a newspaper that Shilpa Shirodkar was shot dead.”However, the producer of the film, Gulshan Kumar, later clarified that it was a technique for the promotions. “When he told me, I was like ‘okay’. Yes, thoda zyada hogaya. There was no PR activity or anything at that time. Kuch pata hi nahi tha na. I was the last one to know that something like this is going to happen. No one used to take permission at that time. The film worked well, so I wasn’t really angry,” the actor shared.On the professional front, Shilpa Shirodkar will next be seen in the Telugu supernatural thriller Jatadhara.
