A 70-year-old woman was rescued after a goods-laden lorry rammed into her house at Agaram village near Odugathur town in Vellore on Tuesday.Police said that the injured woman was identified as K. Rajalakshmi. She was living alone in the dilapidated house with her son K. Baskaran and his family was living a few houses away on the stretch.Initial inquiry revealed that lorry driver G. Sridhar (22), a native of Tiruvannamalai, was driving a consignment of rice bags from Arani town to Alangayam village in Tirupattur district when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle when its front tyre burst.The lorry rammed the house where Rajalakshmi was lying on a cot. The front portion of the house and the lorry were damaged. The lorry driver also sustained minor injuries. As Rajalakshmi cried for help, neighbours and other motorists rushed to the spot and rescued her from the rubble. Based on the alert, Veppakuppam police led by Inspector K. Muthuselvan rushed to the spot. A case was registered against the lorry driver. The vehicle was seized and further probe is under way.Published - July 22, 2025 11:50 pm IST
