Earlier this year Maria Kovalchuk, a 20-year-old Ukrainian model, disappeared for over a week after attending a party in Dubai. When she was finally found she had countless horrific injuries which included a shattered spine and broken limbs. She had been left for dead. Authorities reported that she had “fallen from a height,” but how had she got there? Many at the time speculated that Kovalchuk had been fleeing what is known as a “Porta Potty” party. These parties allegedly take place in secret and involve luring young women, models, and influencers to the event only for them to be sexually degraded and abused by rich men. These supposed depraved parties are a real problem in Dubai according to outlets although there hasn’t been a great deal of reporting on the matter. People have also expressed concerns that gatherings like these go hand in hand with human trafficking. Many suspected that is what happened to Kovalchuk. Maria Kovalchuk recounts her harrowing experience Four months after the incident, Kovalchuk is now slowly recovering with her mother in Norway. Speaking to a Russian news outlet the model gave a run down of the numerous injuries she had endured and she also revealed more details about what happened to her during the period of time she was missing. According to News.com.au, Kovalchuk denied that any Emirati citizens were involved in the crime, claiming that her abusers were the children of wealthy Russian and Ukrainian businessmen. Maria explained that after missing her flight to Thailand, a nineteen-year-old man offered her a place to stay even offering to fly her out on a private jet. From there things went downhill fast. “They started teasing me, why I wasn’t drinking,” Kovalchuk told reporters. The men began to get physical by aggressively pushing Maria, “After that, they started making fun of me like ‘you belong to us, we will do whatever we want’.” The men smashed bottles on the floor and took her passport while another woman left wearing Kovalchuk’s clothes. She claimed that the men hinted that they wanted sex and when she didn’t reciprocate they became more aggressive. Maria tried to escape, managing to hide from her assailants in a construction site nearby. However, she was eventually found by the men and brutally beaten before being thrown off of a ledge. The report on the crime states that “They practically tore the skin off her scalp.” Kovalchuk was later found by a passing driver, she was taken to hospital and remained in a coma for the next few days. Have there been any arrests? Frustratingly there hasn’t been a significant development in the case since March. While Dubai police did detain the accused men they were quickly let go, they claimed they tried to find and help Maria. CCTV footage that could have shown what happened was erased after police allegedly waited three months until the cameras were automatically wiped. Maria’s mother slammed the “official” version of events which included a claim from a police officer that Kovalchuk tried to take her own life. She also denies that her daughter was intoxicated, as she claims medical tests found no alcohol in her system.
