2 men attacked with swords in Thane, two arrested

A video of the accused threatening the victims with swords has also surfaced on social media.The accused — Akash Bhalerao (30) and Suraj Hajare (30) — were arrested by Wagle Estate police. Police said Bhalerao claimed to be a local functionary of Deputy y Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.While police are verifying his political affiliations, a senior Shiv Sena leader from Thane said, “He is active in the party’s activities and attends events regularly. However, we will have to verify his exact post in the party.”According to police, the victims, Ajay Deoras and Sachin Tastode, were seated at a car wash outlet in Nehrunagar around 5:30pm when the accused arrived armed with swords. The dispute reportedly began after Tastode ignored a request from Bhalerao to move a vehicle parked in Sathe Nagar.The accused later tracked down Tastode and confronted him. When Deoras intervened, Bhalerao allegedly swung a sword at his head, injuring him near the eye. Hajare also attacked Deoras, injuring his arm. Tastode was then assaulted with swords, suffering injuries to his head, arms, and legs. Both victims managed to escape and later approached police.A video, captured just before the attack, shows the accused brandishing swords and threatening the victims.
