Tokyo Disney Resort surprised fans this week by announcing plans to pack its bags this summer and head for two locations across Japan. Here’s what you need to know!On July 22, the Oriental Land Company (a third-party group that operates Tokyo Disney Resort under a license from The Walt Disney Company) issued a press release revealing plans for a Fantasy Springs-inspired drone show, “Magic in the Air,” to tour Japan this August. The 15-minute performance utilizes roughly 1,500 drones to create images of fan-favorite Disney characters.Credit: Tokyo Disney ResortMickey Mouse welcomes spectators to the program, followed by scenes inspired by Aladdin (1992). The nighttime spectacular features recognizable Disney music and scenes specifically inspired by Fantasy Springs, the newest Tokyo DisneySea port with areas themed after Frozen (2013), Peter Pan (1953), and Tangled (2010).Credit: Tokyo DisneyThis is actually the second time “Magic in the Air” has toured fireworks festivals across Japan. Last year, Tokyo Disney Resort premiered the tour to celebrate the grand opening of Fantasy Springs in June 2024. This followed the country’s first-ever drone show tour in 2023, which celebrated the Japanese Disney park’s 40th anniversary.As of now, there are only two scheduled stops for the “Magic in the Air” drone show tour across Japan. On Saturday, August 2, the show will perform at The 109th Ashikaga Fireworks Festival in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture, around 7:15 p.m. The nighttime spectacular will also appear at around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, at The 32nd Akagawa Fireworks Festival in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture.Credit: Tokyo Disney ResortTokyo Disney Resort said that other participating fireworks festivals will be announced at a later date. However, the show will not perform at Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea.This isn’t the only national tour currently operated by Tokyo Disney Resort. To celebrate 20 years of Duffy and friends, a fuzzy Duffy Bear bus is traveling throughout Japan! According to Tokyo Disney Resort’s website, the adorable vehicle’s next stop is Wakayama Sand Castle Square in Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture, on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
