Luke Littler’s message to his family in the middle of his second round World Matchplay match against Jermaine Wattimena proved to be the catalyst for his greatest comeback. The teenage PDC World Champion was trailing 7-2 to the Dutchman in the first-to-11 legs match – before winning the tenth leg to make it 7-3.GettyWorld champion Littler has kept his Triple Crown dream alive[/caption]He was struggling badly, but he found inspiration against WattimenaGettyAs he came back from retrieving his darts, he turned to his family, pointing to the ground, where he said: “I am still here. Calm down.”Sky Sports commentator Wayne Mardle instantly said: “‘I’m staying here he says [with that leg].’ That was an important leg to win.“That was an important double 16. Full credit. Jermaine Wattimena, in a race to 11, leads the world champ.”From there, the Nuke racked up a further five legs in a row to see him win 13-11.It is a result that keeps the Nuke’s Triple Crown hopes alive. The World Matchplay is the last tournament he needs to become just the fifth player in history to claim the Triple Crown. The Triple Crown consists of the World Championship, World Matchplay and the Premier League.Littler already has the Premier League and the Worlds to his name, but he’s only had one attempt at the Matchplay, which ended in a first round defeat to Michael van Gerwen last year. However, with Luke Humphries already out, Littler will be the huge favourite to complete the Triple Crown here.If he does, he will become the youngest player in history to do it, joining Humphries, Gary Anderson, Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor.Wattimena played brilliantly, but he just couldn’t quite live with LittlerGettyThings started very badly for Littler, with Wattimena winning four straight legs on the bounce before Littler pulled one back just before the break. But the Dutchman claimed three of the next four to put himself into a commanding position in a race to 11.However he then trailed Littler 8-7 after the youngster won six legs in a row.Wattimena did recover and managed to tie the game at 10-10, meaning the victor had to win by two clear legs. The two exchanged legs to make it 11-11, but Littler had too much in the tank and came through 13-11, nailing D10 with his last dart.He will now face Andrew Gilding on Friday, who beat Dirk van Duijvenbode 11-5 earlier in the night.Littler needs the Matchplay to complete the Triple CrownAFPSpeaking after the dramatic win to Sky Sports, Littler said: “I’m a world champion for a reason, I find these gears when I need it.“I’ve not felt pressure like that since the first round of the World Championships.“A bit nervous but the crowd was unbelievable and it’s on to my third game here and I’ve won two of them.“I want to get back on stage and right now I can’t wait to be in the quarter-final.”
