Disney World has said goodbye to a small, yet crucial part of its history.Credit: Brittany DiCologero, Inside the MagicRelated: Disney World Announces Sweeping Changes to One of Its Cheapest LocationsAnyone who has visited Walt Disney World recently knows there’s a lot going on. Work is now underway on several projects, ranging from bars and eateries to brand-new lands. Piston Peak is one of the most talked-about upcoming additions to the parks. This Cars-themed land will be located adjacent to Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland and will feature several new experiences for guests to enjoy. Piston Peak will also feature a thrill ride similar to Radiator Springs Racers in Disneyland, albeit with an off-roading twist. However, to make room for Piston Peak and all that the new land will bring, multiple classic Magic Kingdom attractions and locations have shut down and been primed for demolition. Fans saw Tom Sawyer Island, the Liberty Square Riverboat, and the Rivers of America all close permanently in July, marking the end of an era for not just the park but for Walt Disney World as a whole. However, small pieces of these experiences are still there for guests to discover, meaning Disney World has a lot of work to do outside of the actual attractions themselves.Disney World Removes Riverboat Pressed PennyCredit: DisneyRelated: Is ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ Heading to Broadway?Magic Kingdom is no longer offering the Liberty Square Riverboat pressed penny in the machine located in Liberty Square. Several Splash Mountain-related items, such as pennies and other merchandise, were available in the parks even after the attraction closed in 2023. Music from Splash Mountain, including the ride’s infectious main track “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah,” could also be heard in various places around the parks for quite some time following its closure. The same can likely be said for the closure of experiences like Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat, though work is moving quite quickly on Disney World’s ambitious new project. An exact timeline has not been announced by Disney for Piston Peak. It’s rumored the new land will be completed in 2026 or 2027, along with the rest of Disney’s ongoing Florida renovations.Which upcoming Disney World expansion are you most looking forward to?The post Disney Erases Classic Magic Kingdom Attraction From History Books Overnight appeared first on Inside the Magic.
