These efforts include repairing camp infrastructure, maintaining street lighting, or managing the drainage system in camps.Camps in Syria face significant challenges, including overcrowding and gaps in essential services, particularly for adequate shelter.Effective coordination and site maintenance services are crucial to enhance camp safety and ensure access to essential needs for all residents.Through ECHO’s support, Acted is enhancing the living conditions of conflict-affected men, women, boys and girls in camps through high quality CCCM, WASH services and emergency shelter assistance.This benefits people living in camps such as Tasneem*.Enhancing the safety, privacy and living conditions for camp residents: Tasneem’s storyTasneem* is a 54-year-old widow who was displaced to a camp with her three children, including one with special needs, and her eldest daughter, who has two children. When she entered the camp, her family was living in a tent.We were given a tent, but it did not protect us from the heat of summer and the cold of winter, and my children suffered greatly from that. I tried to save money to build a mud brick shelter two years ago, but due to the rain and my children’s activities, moisture and mud accumulated inside, requiring constant cumbersome maintenanceTasneemTo enhance the safety and comfort of Tasneem’s family and other camp residents, Acted launched shelter rehabilitation works in the camp in September. These activities were carried out through immediate employment opportunities under Acted’s Cash-for-Work approach.Thanks to Acted’s support in rehabilitating the shelters, the dust, mud and insects were no longer a concern. This created a healthier and more pleasant living environment for Tasneem and her family, making their shelter much more comfortable.After hearing the news about the rehabilitation of shelters, I was overwhelmed with happiness.
