Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh, said mismanagement of the country’s financial resources under the A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) government led to a significant reduction in the spending power of the population, affecting all businesses. In Region Six, he noted that the closure of the sugar estates not only affected those who worked directly in the industry but also their families and entrepreneurs.“Not only sugar workers feel the brunt of that, every single market vendor, every single taxi driver, every single shop owner felt the brunt of it because the economy dried up and no money was in circulation,” Dr. Singh told party supporters at the PPP/C rally hosted at Albion Estate Road, Berbice on Sunday. He said Region Six was neglected, feeling the brunt of the former Government’s “mismanagement and misrule.”“More than anybody in Guyana – of course, everybody felt it, but you know it more – the people of Region Six bore the brunt of APNU’s lack of vision, their incompetence, their blatant persecution and victimisation of people,” the PPP Executive Member said.During the 2015-2020 term in office, the APNU+AFC Government shut down the Rose Hall, Skeldon, Wales, and Enmore sugar estates, putting more than 7,500 sugar workers out of jobs and plunging entire communities into economic and social crisis.Six parties approved by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to contest the September 1 polls. Dr. Singh said the APNU+AFC, contesting individually, will come in various disguises, but the people must not forget the hardships of the past.“No matter what disguise they come in and no matter what colour they’re wearing, they might be wearing green or they may be trying to disguise in blue, your position I know and our position as a Guyanese people is never again will they be allowed to hold the reins of government,” he told party supporters. In keeping with the legal requirements and within the statutory timelines post Nomination Day, GECOM has approved the APNU, AFC, Assembly of Liberty and Prosperity (ALP), Forward Guyana Movement (FGM), People’s Progressive Party / Civic (PPP/C), and We Invest in Nationhood (WIN).The post Economy ‘dried up’ under APNU+AFC – Dr. Ashni Singh appeared first on News Room Guyana.
