Bishop Stuart University (BSU) has partnered with the Mastercard Foundation and eight other organizations to launch the Refugee and Host Community Youth Empowerment and Transformation Initiative (RETI), offering free internship and apprenticeship opportunities to unemployed youth aged 15-35.The two-month program aims to address youth unemployment in 15 refugee-hosting districts across Uganda, targeting both refugees and members of host communities. The initiative focuses particularly on young women and persons with disabilities, who are strongly encouraged to apply.Participants can choose from 13 vocational training areas including bakery and confectionery, catering and hotel management, poultry and livestock management, building and concrete practice, carpentry and joinery, welding and metal fabrication, electrical installation, motorcycle repair, hairdressing and salon work, tailoring and garment cutting, craft and sandal making, knitting and weaving, and digital ICT skills.The program is currently accepting applications for placements in Isingiro, Kamwenge, and Kikuube districts, as well as at Bishop Stuart University’s main campus. The application deadline is August 11, 2025.To be eligible, applicants must have refugee status in Nakivale, Kyangwali, or Rwamwanja settlements, or belong to host communities in the targeted districts. They must also hold at least a certificate or diploma in business, technical, or vocational studies and commit to full attendance throughout the program.The university emphasizes that the internship opportunity is completely free of charge and maintains zero tolerance for abuse, harassment, or corruption.
