It is expected to submit the revised draft by the end of this year.In July, Chavan had assaulted Chhava Sanghatna state president Vijaykumar Ghatge after he threw playing cards on the table in front of NCP state president Sunil Tatkare during his press conference. Ghatge and other members of his organisation were demanding the resignation of then agriculture minister Manikrao Kokate, also from the NCP, after a viral video purportedly showed him playing ‘rummy’ on his mobile phone during the monsoon session of the state legislature.Kokate is now the new sports and youth affairs minister, and has approved Chavan’s appointment as a special invitee in the committee to finalise the revised State Youth Policy along with Dhananjay Thackeray, a recipient of the National Youth Award, and Advocate Sangram Shewale, a youth activist.Amid criticism by the Opposition, Chavan had resigned as the president of NCP’s youth wing but was subsequently made a general secretary in the party. The committee was originally set up in May 2025 to review the state’s Youth Policy 2012 and prepare a revised draft. After facing flak for the non-inclusion of Opposition members as well as women legislators, several legislators and independent invitees have been inducted into the committee. On June 27, 13 members were added as special invitees. It included three legislators from the Opposition, namely Varun Sardesai from the Shiv Sena (UBT), Rohit Patil from the NCP (SP) and Babasaheb Deshmukh from the Peasants and Workers Party. On September 5, three more members were added as special invitees, which included BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe, NCP (SP) MLA Abhijit Patil and Vidhi Palsapure as a non-political member.Story continues below this adOn September 11, three more special invitees, including Chavan, were added.“There are some political appointments as well, but it will give universal approach to the committee and the draft will be inclusive,” an official from the youth affairs department said.Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has already sanctioned a provision of Rs 10 crore for the implementation of programmes under the new youth policy.
