The reports that the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) is contemplating cancellation of e-challans issued against department vehicles were baseless and misleading, C.H. Nagaraju, Transport Commissioner of Kerala, has said.“We heard that there is fake news going around on some social media platforms that the MVD is contemplating cancellation of e-challans issued against department vehicles. This is an absolutely false and baseless rumour created with an intention to harm public interest. There is no such proposal or discussion in the department. Road safety-related violations and e-challans issued against MVD vehicles will be treated seriously by the department,” he said. The e-challans, once issued, cannot be cancelled by anyone. The department does not have the legal authority to cancel an e-challan once issued. Only courts have the authority to take a call on them. This rumour is created with an intention to misguide citizens and make them less compliant with traffic laws. It is harmful for the safety of road users if motor vehicle laws are not complied with by anyone, including department drivers, said the MVD in a statement.Published - September 10, 2025 09:00 pm IST
