Content warning + Trigger warning: Footage of dead animalsAnimal activist, Fabio Spiteri, took to social media to share his footage of the dumping of car engine oil in the Msida reservoir earlier this week. Workers arriving on site early this morning were confronted with a disturbing scene after discovering that used engine oil had been poured into a clean reservoir overnight, harming the ducks who were situated in the area.“Now I can post the video I took early this week since it’s confirmed by the local council that it was car engine oil that killed all ducks contaminating all the water. There were roughly 15 adult ducks and 20 – 25 small ducklings!!! I thank Sugar Kane for feeding these ducks on a daily basis. I also personally a few times ordered water bowsers in the heat of the summer for them to have some water. Hope there are cameras in the vicinity to catch this bastard,” wrote Fabio Spiteri. The pollution has had immediate and devastating effects, killing several ducks and leaving others gravely ill. The footage from the area showed birds lying lifeless after coming into contact with the contaminated water. In a statement published on Tuesday, the council appealed for the public’s assistance, urging anyone with information or footage that could help identify those responsible to reach out in confidence. They emphasised that such cooperation is vital for the police to take the necessary legal action against those behind the incident. Concluding their message, the council encouraged the community to work together in safeguarding the local environment, thanking residents in advance for their support. If you have CCTV footage, you can turn it in to the authorities to help catch the culprit•
