THE story of the Blues and the Bees is one that has haunted Chelsea fans in the past – and did so again today.Brentford’s opener in the 35th minute was the fourth time in four games Enzo Maresca’s side have conceded first, though admittedly only two of them have counted. PAFabio Carvalho grabbed a late, late equaliser for Brentford against Chelsea[/caption]AlamyMoises Caicedo looked to have grabbed the winner with his belting strike[/caption]The Blues’ defence had pressed high, leaving only Tosin Adarabioyo at the back, who the ball deflected off before rolling past Robert Sanchez to put the Bees 1-0 up. A host of changes needed to be made at the break and were, with Marc Cucurella, Reece James, and Tyrique George all coming on, followed by the return of Cole Palmer. It was, of course, the ‘Iceman’ who levelled the scoring, slotting a half-volley into the bottom corner of the Brentford net. Moises Caicedo completed the comeback with a sensational long-range effort to make it 2-1, with the Blues thinking they’d be back at the top of the table when the night came to a close. But it was not over then as Brentford substitute Fabio Carvalho levelled deep into injury time, having only been on the pitch for four minutes. Here’s how SunSport Chelsea Reporter Lloyd Canfield rated the players…ROBERT SANCHEZ – 6Couldn’t do an awful lot about Brentford’s opener, which was deflected into the back of the net by Tosin, and was generally pretty good. He came well for loose balls and crosses, and cleared the ball when necessary. BEST ONLINE CASINOS – TOP SITES IN THE UKA couple of important saves in there too, but perhaps should’ve done better as Brentford levelled late from a long throw into the box. WESLEY FOFANA – 3With Reece James rested after a lengthy international break, it was Wesley Fofana who was given the task of replacing him, in his first start since March. And it looked that way too, the £80m Frenchman seemed only half-bothered as his man Kevin Schade strolled through on goal before putting Brentford one to the good. Hooked at half-time. Rusty.TOSIN ADARABIOYO – 5With Thomas Tuchel in attendance, tonight was a big night for Tosin and his partner, Trevoh Chalobah, at the back for the Blues. Playing in the middle of the back three in the ‘Levi Colwill role’, the Chelsea No4 made several good blocks and was a threat from set-pieces, but was left exposed at the back – taken advantage of by the Brentford front line. TREVOH CHALOBAH – 6After an impressive start to the season, Chalobah didn’t look as comfortable as usual in this one. An attempt to win the ball high up the pitch allowed Brentford to capitalise and score before half-time, where he was caught out of position. It must be said his passing was impressive, he looked good on the ball, and he was the best of three poor centre-halves tonight. JORREL HATO – 4Played his short career so far as a centre-back, signed as a left-back and played in midfield, a questionable deployment from Maresca, it must be said. Wasn’t able to really progress the ball in the way Cucurella does for the Blues, popping up in those attacking areas, and was booked for a challenge on Igor Thiago. Not abysmal by any means, but he has a lot of learning to do to become the long-term successor to Marc Cucurella. GettyCole Palmer finished superbly to make it 1-1[/caption]ReutersCaicedo blasted in from the edge of the area[/caption]MOISES CAICEDO – 9Mr Consistent, Caicedo is a defensive midfielder SO good you have to assume he is AI. You’d have never guessed he has struggled with injury this season and flew back from Ecuador on Thursday – there was not an ounce of jetlag in his body. Interceptions, tackles, blocks, he’s got it all, and now the Ecuadorian has downloaded long-range thunderbolts to his technology package. Rightly inherited N’Golo Kante’s chant from the travelling Blues fans.ENZO FERNANDEZ – 6The Argentine spent the international break in Greece with his family, and looked as though he wished he was still there in the first half. To his credit, though, the midfielder turned things around in the second half and improved massively. The stats won’t show his ‘pre-assist’ for Cole Palmer’s leveller, but he played a key part in his team’s resurgence. PEDRO NETO – 6A few clever touches, bags of energy and a lot of hard work, Pedro Neto was dynamic on the right and a danger for the Brentford defence on a few occasions. Couldn’t quite add the end product to an otherwise good showing.Cole Palmer is back amongst the goals after less than FIVE minutes on the pitch pic.twitter.com/c2342dmVQ8— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) September 13, 2025 Fabio Carvalho steals a point for Brentford deep into stoppage-time! pic.twitter.com/OgqsOFWntb— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) September 13, 2025FACUNDO BUONANOTTE – 6Replacing Palmer is an arduous task for anyone, but the young Argentine did it well.Looked calm and composed on the ball, with impressive technical ability. Perhaps should’ve pulled the trigger a little earlier when he had the chance in the first half, before being replaced by Tyrique George. JAMIE GITTENS – 3Anonymous for almost the entirety of the first half. Failed to offer any real threat for his side before being replaced by Palmer in the 55th minute. Enzo Maresca will be looking forward to seeing what Alejandro Garnacho can offer. JOAO PEDRO – 7Having travelled back from playing in Bolivia at the highest national team stadium on the planet, you would have forgiven Joao Pedro for moving like a video game character when your Wi-Fi goes down.He had a chance early on following a pass from Buonanotte, but that was blocked, before getting a new lease of life when his buddy Palmer was introduced. It was the Brazilian who rose highest from a Fernandez cross, knocking the ball down for Palmer to finish with aplomb.SUBS: MARC CUCURELLA (JORREL HATO, 45) – 7Instantly looked an improvement on Hato going forward, with a right-footed shot into the palms of Caoimhin Kelleher. Solid defensively, and made a few key tackles when the Blues were hit on the break. REECE JAMES (WESLEY FOFANA, 45) – 6Inverted into midfield much more comfortably than anyone else in that role, but his outstretched leg couldn’t prevent Carvalho from tapping home a late winner, which came from his poor clearance. A mixed half for the right-back after coming on, but he undoubtedly was a big upgrade on Fofana. But for the last-minute equaliser, it would’ve been a much better showing.TYRIQUE GEORGE (FACUNDO BUONANOTTE, 45) – 7Chelsea were poised to sell George to Fulham on deadline day, but today will be grateful they didn’t. The Cobham product was impressive after his introduction, stretching the Brentford defence and troubling Kelleher in net. COLE PALMER (JAMIE GITTENS, 55) – 8When Chelsea needed a hero, it was their main man who stepped up. A little under five minutes after coming on, it was a familiar scene as Palmer ran off celebrating having slotted the ball away with his left foot. A constant threat, sending shivers down the spines of Brentford fans after his introduction, he was lightning on the ball and perhaps should’ve had a brace with 15 minutes to go when his low effort was denied by Kelleher. ALEJANDRO GARNACHO (JOAO PEDRO, 79) – 6Didn’t have an awful lot of time to make an impact, but was impressive in the build-up to Moises Caicedo’s long-range winner, putting the ball into a good area. A solid debut to build on for the No49 – but did lose his man Carvalho at the back post for the late leveller.
