Mumbai: Auto driver given wrong injection, alleges family; doctor booked

The complainant, Sharmiladevi Jha, 38, lived in Chembur along with her husband Nantun Jha and three children — two daughters and a son. Her husband was an autorickshaw driver.Jha had complained of tooth pain. On December 7, he went to the Lions Club Charitable Trust in Chembur for treatment and his tooth was extracted. He did not take rest and drove an auto the same day and next day till afternoon continuously, reads the FIR.On December 8, afternoon, Jha suffered from unbearable pain and his cheek was swollen. But being a Sunday, the clinic at Lions Club Charitable Trust was closed. So the victim’s wife and son took Jha to Om Clinic in the area where Dr Ramesh Vishwakarma examined him. Dr Vishwakarma then administered an injection to Jha and gave medicine to reduce the pain, the FIR states.But Jha’s pain did not subside even after having medicines prescribed by the doctor. He started having breathing difficulty. The family again rushed him to Dr Vishwarma who advised them to take him to another doctor. The family rushed Jha to Sion hospital where he was declared dead, said a police officer.The family suspected foulplay by Dr Vishwakarma, so they approached the health department of BMC.
