By: Express News ServiceChandigarh | Updated: September 14, 2025 01:52 AM IST 2 min readAll five accused have been produced in court, and further investigation is underway to trace their wider supply chain and possible links to larger drug networks, said the police (Archive)A 35-year-old water carrier at the Punjab Secretariat and three men working as sweepers on DC rates in the same office are among five accused arrested after the Chandigarh Police Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) busted an inter-state narco syndicate operating between Himachal Pradesh and the Tricity.Police have recovered 742 grams of charas, valued at Rs 2.22 lakh.The case was cracked under the supervision of SP (Crime) Jasbir Singh, with supervision by DSP (Crime) Dhiraj Kumar, and led by Inspector Harminderjit Singh, SHO of Police Station ANTF, Sector 11.As per the police, in the early hours of September 8, the police team received a tip-off that a car from Himachal Pradesh carrying narcotics was headed to Chandigarh. Around 3.15 am, the police intercepted vehicle CH01CB-2819 near New Barricade Chowk. Inside were four men — Gaurav Kumar (35) of Sector 7/B, Chandigarh; Ajay (25) and Abhishek (23) of Naya Gaon, Mohali; and Amit Kumar (29) of Sector 38/W, Chandigarh. From their possession, the police recovered 597 grams of charas along with the car. An FIR was registered under the NDPS Act.Following Gaurav Kumar’s disclosure, the syndicate’s supplier Kulwant Singh (35), a resident of Mathla village in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh, was arrested the next day from Parwanoo. Another 145 grams of charas was seized from him.According to the police, Gaurav Kumar is employed as a water carrier at the Punjab Secretariat, while Ajay, Abhishek, and Amit Kumar worked there as sweepers on DC rates. The four men, all drug consumers themselves, allegedly purchased charas from Kulwant Singh at low prices in Himachal Pradesh and sold it in Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula for profit.Kulwant Singh, a farmer, cultivated apples but also allegedly grew cannabis in his orchards.
