By: Express News ServiceAhmedabad | September 14, 2025 12:12 AM IST 2 min readThe arrest of all five accused persons was announced by Narol Inspector PC Desai on Saturday (Archive)Five days after a couple died of electrocution, after falling into a waterlogged street that had electricity running through it due to contact with open wiring, police on Saturday arrested two officials of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and three contractors for alleged negligence.Rajan (32) and Ankita Singal (27) lost their lives on September 8 after they tripped into the waterlogged street in Narol area after their two-wheeler stumbled upon a pothole.The arrest of all five accused persons was announced by Narol Inspector PC Desai on Saturday.The FIR against the accused, based on a complaint by Rajan’s mother Hetal Harjeevan Singal, was filed at Narol police station on Friday night.The FIR stated that on Monday, Rajan and Ankita had gone to deliver a tiffin to Hetal’s husband Harjeevan, who was admitted to LG Hospital in Maninagar with a lung infection. They had returned from the hospital around 10 pm, had dropped Hetal off at her brother’s home in Isanpur, and were on their way to their own home in Narol when they fell in the waterlogged Mutton Gali. The water had a current running through it due to power leakage, it was alleged.The FIR further stated that when the paramedics arrived in the ambulance, both were already dead.
