Surat tops in the state in disposing highest number of cases in Lok Adalat

This remarkable feat was accomplished in all courts of Surat district, marking a significant milestone in the legal landscape of Surat.Under the auspices of the National Legal Services Authority, Supreme Court of India, and the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority, the 3rd National Lok Adalat in Surat addressed a diverse range of cases. These included criminal compoundable cases, section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, Bank Recovery Cases, Motor Accident Cases, Labour Dispute cases, Water and Electricity Bill cases, Matrimonial Cases, Revenue Cases, and Civil Cases, among others.President of Surat District Bar Association Brijesh Patel, City Bar Association Nilkhant Barot, several other advocates, litigants have participated in the event.In the lok Adalat, the disputes were amicably settled between the parties which resulted into permanent solutions.According to the press release, the 3rd National Lok Adalat in Surat was not only successful in resolving a significant number of cases but also in reaching substantial financial settlements. In a single day, a total of 97331 cases were taken up, out of which 95369 cases were resolved, resulting in a settlement amount of Rs. 1,26,57,60,631. The Surat district once again led the state in case disposal, with 3010 cases under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act amicably settled, amounting to Rs. 52,90,07,727.Apart from this, 133984 e-challan cases have been resolved resulting in the recovery of Rs. 10,50,61,355 has been recovered. Also, 1,48,082 pre-litigation cases have been disposed of with a total settlement amount of Rs. 12,42,68,221. Along with this, a commercial suit of Rs. 36 crores also has been settled.In a settlement of a single case of MACP for Rs. 1.80 crores, and total compensation of Rs. 900 lakhs has bee paid to the appplicants in the 16 high value MACP cases. Apart from this, a total of 238 cases of 10 years or more old and 181 numbers of targetted cases have been disposed of.Story continues below this adSurat District Court, Legal Services Authority, secretary D R Joshi said, “Due to the active participation of litigants and advocates, the 3rd National Lok Adalat had achieved unprecedented and phenomenal success.
