Over 20 students injured after school bus falls into gorge in Kollam

As many as 22 students were injured after their school bus overturned and fell into a gorge in Nilamel in Kollam on Monday.The incident occurred around 12.30 p.m. on the Thattathumala-Vattappara road near the Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam border. The bus belongs to the Believers Church Vidya Jyothi English School in Kilimanoor.The students were returning to their homes after classes when the accident occurred. The bus was forced to swerve as it navigated a sharp bend when another vehicle, coming from the opposite direction, approached at high speed. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the bus swerved to the left and fell into the gorge, officials said.The students were soon rushed to the Kadakkal taluk hospital, following which some of them were later referred to the Kollam Government Medical College Hospital. A few students are also admitted to a private hospital in Kadakkal. None of the students are in critical condition, the police said.The police have registered a case in connection with the incidents.
