‘Airbnb is not safe anymore’: Woman shares traumatic experience after host barges into the unit she was renting unannounced

A woman on TikTok has shared her terrible experience with an Airbnb host who she claims violated several rules and made her and her husband feel incredibly threatened, especially considering the host had previously disclosed they had a gun on the premises. “Irisgreymusic” shared her traumatic experience with viewers on TikTok which occurred in August. In her video she explained that her and her husband checked into the basement unit and immediately noticed a few issues. First of all, one of the doors that was shared with the owner’s laundry area was glass with only a thin blind to give Iris and her husband privacy.  The Airbnb host, whose name is Nicki, also demanded that the AC be kept at 72 degrees and not be turned up despite the basement unit being a heat trap meaning it got incredibly hot for the uncomfortable couple. Most alarmingly there was an undisclosed camera on the property. Although it wasn’t inside the property, it made Iris and her husband worry that there could be more hidden out of sight. @irisgreymusic @airbnb I have never experienced something like this. I don’t know what to do. #airbnb #foryou #foryoupage #drama #dramatiktok #xyzbca #airbnbfinds #scared ♬ original sound – IrisGreyMusic This all pales in comparison to what happened next however as a dispute over the AC temperature led to Nicki barging in on Iris’ husband while he was in the unit alone. She immediately began recording despite the fact that the poor man was shirtless and had asked her not to. Nicki accused Iris and her husband of messing up the unit, something which Iris disputes. Iris and her husband began to feel threatened by their Airbnb host With all that had occurred it was becoming apparent that Iris and her husband weren’t dealing with your typical Airbnb host. They began to suspect there really were other cameras in the unit and that was why the host had been so desperate to find an excuse to enter the property. This coupled with the knowledge that the owner had disclosed that there was a gun on the premises meant that the safer option was to probably slip out before the end of their tenancy. Iris informed Airbnb that she would be leaving early and the couple left the unit in pristine condition as evidenced by photos. However, the host wouldn’t let it go as she later accused the pair of breaking items and stealing. This isn’t the first time an Airbnb host has tried to accuse a tenant of breaking items when they haven’t and unfortunately it probably won’t be the last. All in all it’s a pretty disturbing tale and Iris has received no support from Airbnb, leaving her no choice but to turn to TikTok for help. Some online advised her not to pay her bill, especially considering she has receipts, “WOW. you have all the receipts.” wrote one person, “Do not pay that bill.” Another asked, “If people don’t want others in their house – I wish they’d stop renting their spaces out.”
