The two theme parks mark very interesting points in time for the company, with Magic Kingdom being the first Disney park to open in Florida, and Animal Kingdom being the last, or at least, most recent. Each is set to receive some hefty upgrades over the coming years. Magic Kingdom will eventually be home to a new area called Piston Peak. Inspired by Pixar’s Cars franchise, Piston Peak will feature several new attractions for guests to enjoy, including an off-roading racing adventure similar to Disneyland’s Radiator Springs Racers.Animal Kingdom is also getting a new area, one that requires an iconic part of the park to close.Credit: DisneyRelated: Disney World Shocks Travelers With New Jaw-Dropping $16,000 Vacation Price TagFollowing the closure of The Boneyard, Disney has begun removing foliage and canopies inside DinoLand U.S.A. The interactive playground area closed on September 1, prompting a number of new construction walls to pop up.In addition to The Boneyard’s closure, the main entrance to DinoLand was also blocked. Guests wishing to explore what remains of the land must now follow a long and winding path. The Walt Disney Company first teased its DinoLand plans during a conference in 2022, when it revealed concept art for a totally reimagined take on the prehistoric land. Gone were any mention of dinosaurs, and in their place was new popular Disney IP like Moana and Zootopia. This announcement came as a surprise, though many fans had been holding out hope that DinoLand would either be updated or go extinct for years. DinoLand has always been a divisive part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, with some arguing it doesn’t fit with the rest of the park.Disney would go quiet on the project for a little while until officially announcing DinoLand’s demise in 2024. However, Zootopia and Moana had been dropped and instead, new anchors were chosen for this ambitious project.Called Tropical Americas, this new area will instead feature attractions based on other popular Disney IP, like Indiana Jones and Encanto.Work began on Tropical Americas earlier this year, with half of DinoLand closing permanently in January. The rest of DinoLand will close on February 2, 2026, including DINOSAUR, the land’s big “E-ticket” thrill ride. Like any ride closure, there will be waves of fans to rush out to explore DinoLand one last time, though the general consensus is that this overhaul was long overdue.Disney’s Tropical Americas expansion will open in 2027.Will you miss DinoLand when it closes?
