Sesame Place San Diego Issues September 2025 Closure Notice

On Monday night, Sesame Place San Diego announced it would close indefinitely as of September 21, 2025. The California theme park shared plans to honor existing 2025 Season Passes, which would’ve been eligible for the rest of the year, including popular Christmas-themed meet-and-greets and other park entertainment.Credit: Sesame PlaceSesame Place San Diego opened its doors to the public in March 2022. Once just a water park, the family-friendly amusement park has had several owners and names over the years, previously operating as Aquatic San Diego under SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment (its current owner), Knott’s Soak City U.S.A. – San Diego under Cedar Fair, and White Water Canyon under its initial independent ownership. Now, the Sesame Street-themed destination is known as the first-ever theme park in the world to open as a certified autism center by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).Sesame Place San Diego operated year-round for its first three years, hosting seasonal events and themed entertainment for holidays throughout the year. But on September 15, the SeaWorld-owned theme park announced that it would switch to seasonal-only operations as of September 21, 2025.Credit: Sesame PlaceThe park published a statement on Instagram, explaining that it hopes to “deliver the best possible experience” for guests by focusing on its most popular seasons. 2025 Season Pass Holders will be granted complimentary SeaWorld Fun Cards, including unlimited admission to SeaWorld San Diego and access to holiday events like Halloween Spooktacular and Christmas Celebration.“Sesame Place will transition to a seasonal schedule, making every visit filled with more excitement, attractions, and activities to enjoy. By focusing on our most popular times of year, we can deliver the best possible experience from the moment guests arrive until the moment they leave. The park’s final operating day for this season will be Sunday, September 21, and we look forward to welcoming friends and families back in Spring 2026!To honor current 2025 Season Pass Holders and ensure continued value, the park is providing each pass holder with a complimentary SeaWorld Fun Card valid through the remainder of the year.
