The San Leonardu Musical Society inaugurated its new premises on the occasion of this year’s feast, once again taking place from 15th to 21st September, marking the close of the Maltese summer festival season.13th September 2025 will go down as a unique and historic date for the San Leonardu Musical Society. After decades of heartfelt dedication, countless acts of commitment, wisdom and extraordinary sacrifice, the Society now has, for the very first time in its century-long history, a home it can truly call its own. Remarkably, it has poured its heart into turning this opportunity into a symbol of renewal. This new home will stand for years to come as a tribute to those who came before, a sign of hope for future generations and a testament to enduring love for Saint Leonardu.Like all volunteer organisations, the San Leonardu Musical Society relies entirely on the participation and activism of its members and their families to achieve its goals. In line with this, it remains attentive and sensitive to the times, ensuring it remains relevant. It is in this spirit that the Society embraced a contemporary approach in designing its new building. The aim was not only to create a beautiful and functional structure but, above all, to establish a forward-looking band club that aspires to be a vibrant hub for the community of Ħal Kirkop. The Society is committed to making this new premises a lively centre that increasingly attracts families and young people, recognising that renewal and optimism go hand in hand. The journey to this milestone was long. Following decades of legal challenges, the Society acquired the property on 17th February 2012, never looking back. After an extensive consultation process involving members and benefactors, planning permission for a contemporary building, led by Carlo Schembri as Artistic Director and Hon. Toni Bezzina as architect, was granted on 29th May 2015.Construction began on 7th October 2015, marking ten years of sacrifice that have led to this historic day. Notably, on 17th February 2021, an additional plot was acquired, giving the Society a clubhouse of 387m² with three façades. This is a beautiful and memorable achievement, but there is much more than meets the eye. In moments of challenge and joy alike, the Society has always maintained that it is not the building, but the people who define it. For the first time in its history, this family can look confidently to the future. Proud of what has been accomplished and with the support of many, the Society can now focus exclusively on its goals – working, renewing and serving the community with devotion to its Patron. The new premises of the San Leonardu Musical Society were inaugurated on 13th September 2025 by Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of the Republic of Malta and blessed by His Excellency Charles J. Scicluna, Archbishop of Malta, during a musical programme by Banda San Leonardo accompanied by fireworks and audiovisual displays.Tag someone you know is interested•
