By: Express News ServicePune | September 15, 2025 11:00 PM IST 3 min readPolice booked the accused under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Indian Arms Act and the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).Probing the murder of Ayush Komkar, the Pune city police on Monday told a special court that Komkar’s granfather—dreaded gangster Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar (68), a key accused in the case—is an expert in mobilising young people and hatching conspiracies to commit crimes.Police told the court that Andekar was in the past convicted in a 1985 murder case, for which he had served life imprisonment.The court extended the police custody of Andekar and his five gang members till September 17 for further investigation. The court also sent four people from the Andekar family—arrested from Gujarat on Sunday—to police custody till September 17.Ayush Komkar (18) was allegedly shot multiple times by two gunmen in the parking lot of his residence in Bhavani Peth on September 5.Police suspected it to be an act of revenge for the murder of former NCP corporator and Bandu Andekar’s son Vanraj Andekar on September 1, 2024.Ayush was the son of Kalyani Komkar, who is one of the daughters of Bandu Andekar. Kalyani’s husband Ganesh Komkar, sister Sanjivani and her husband Jayant Komkar, are key accused in Vanraj’s murder.An FIR over Ayush’s murder was lodged at Samarth police station against nine people from the Andekar family, including Bandu, his son Krushna Andekar, and four gang members—Yash Patil, Amit Patole, Sujal Rahul Mergu (23) and Aman Yusuf Pathan alias Khan (22).Police booked the accused under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Indian Arms Act and the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).Story continues below this adPolice arrested Yash and Amit around 10 pm on September 6. They have sent to police custody till September 22.Meanwhile, six others—Aman, Sujal, Bandu Andekar, his daughter Vrundavani Nilanjay Wadekar (45) and her sons Tushar (27) and Swaraj (23)—were arrested on September 9. On Sunday, police arrested Bandu Andekar’s nephews Shivam Udaykant Andekar (31), Shivraj Udaykant Andekar (29), Abhishek Udaykant Andekar (21) and their mother Lakshmi Udaykant Andekar (60) from Gujarat and brought them to Pune.Police produced all 10 accused before a special court on Monday. Police said they want to probe financial transactions of the accused pertaining to the murder and procurement of pistols for committing the crime. Police said a probe was on to get clues about the wanted accused Krushna Andekar, who Bandu Andekar’s son.As per the FIR, the Andekar gang allegedly hatched a conspiracy to avenge the murder of Vanraj Andekar, and Aman Pathan and Yash Patil allegedly shot dead Ayush.
