(Express Photo)Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said that every piece of research should be turned into a product, every product into an industry, and every industry into a strength for India — a mantra he said would guide a developed Uttar Pradesh. Adityanath made the remarks while addressing the closing ceremony of the ‘CSIR Startup Conclave 2025’ in Lucknow.“Uttar Pradesh is a frontrunner in ease of doing business. Security, convenience and a strong ecosystem, essential for enterprises,are firmly established here. Trust and doing business have become the new identity of the state,” the chief minister said, adding that the government was not only framing policies but also “giving wings to the ideas of youth, entrepreneurs and scientists.” He said the state stood with startups “from laboratories to industries.”Adityanath noted that directors of four central laboratories — NBRI, CDRI, IITR and CIMAP — presented their future plans at the conclave. He emphasised that increasing investment in science and technology would make society more progressive and position such nations to lead the world. “The more we invest in science and technology, the more progressive society becomes, and such nations will lead the world,” he said.Pointing to national startup statistics, the chief minister said India now has about 1.9 lakh startups and ranks third after the US and the UK. He said Uttar Pradesh has more than 17,000 active startups, including eight unicorns, supported by 72 incubators and seven centres of excellence. “To promote startups, the government has provided financial support of Rs 137 crore,” he added.Adityanath said the state’s startups had shown notable work across healthcare, agriculture, biotech, beauty and environment, and he touted efforts to translate research from “lab to land” and “lab to industry.”He cited the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme as an example of how traditional industries and MSMEs are being linked with technology, design, packaging and markets. As a result, he said, Uttar Pradesh now exports goods worth around Rs 2 lakh crore annually and has created jobs in 96 lakhs MSME units. He also noted that more than 77 products from 75 districts have received GI tags.The ecosystem of startup and standup will become the foundation of Atmanirbhar India.The chief minister highlighted specific contributions from research institutions. He said NBRI had promoted organic farming on nine lakh acres, CDRI was engaged in research for new medicines and supporting pharma parks, IITR had focused on arsenic- and fluoride-affected areas, and CIMAP had developed products linked to peppermint and related sectors. The two-day conclave, he added, had given fresh direction to the state’s and the country’s startup ecosystem.Story continues below this adSeveral memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were exchanged at the event and a number of startups launched new products. The programme was attended by Union Minister Jitendra Singh; CSIR-NBRI Director A. K.
