An early-morning accident along the No. 11 Public Road in East Berbice has claimed the lives of two young men after a motorcycle and a car collided around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday.The fatal crash involved motorcar #HC 4710, driven by 48-year-old Madray Ramsammy of Lancaster Village, Corentyne, and motorcycle #CP 8880, which was being operated by 29-year-old Kris Ramphal of Lot 97 Fyrish, Corentyne.Ramphal’s passenger, 18-year-old Malcolm Pirtan of Lot 135 Fyrish Village, also lost his life in the accident.According to police investigations, the car was traveling east along the northern lane of the roadway, while the motorcycle was heading west, allegedly at a high speed.Both the motorcyclist and his pillion rider were reportedly not wearing helmets at the time of the collision.Driver Ramsammy told investigators that the motorcycle, which allegedly had no headlight, veered into his lane. He said he attempted to swerve right to avoid the crash, but the motorcycle struck the left front portion of his vehicle, resulting in a devastating impact.Following the collision, both Ramphal and Pirtan were thrown onto the northern side of the road and sustained severe injuries. Public-spirited citizens rushed to assist and transported the injured men to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where they were pronounced dead by the attending physician.Their bodies have since been transferred to the Arokium Funeral Home, where post-mortem examinations are pending.Ramsammy was arrested at the scene and taken into custody at the Central Police Station, where he remains as investigations continue.The post Motorcycle crash claims two lives in East Berbice appeared first on News Room Guyana.
