Putting Apple to shame is why the Galaxy Z TriFold even exists

If it felt like Samsung was playing it too safe with foldable phones while Chinese OEMs were pushing ahead with significant updates, the Korean giant reminded us all of its dominance in the segment this year. Its new foldable phones have been very well received. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 in particular has been a spectacular hit. It's the first time that the most expensive foldable has outsold the more modestly priced clamshell phone by quite some market. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is just that good. Not only is it a bonafide flagship phone, it's also the world's thinnest foldable phone. It's also considerably lighter than its predecessor, all while offering best-in-class hardware and assured durability. Samsung has delivered on most expectations that customers had for this device. The thinner profile is really what drove customers to pick up the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in droves. It's not a fundamentally different device than its predecessor. It folds the same way and works the same way. If you were so inclined, you could dock points for the lack of S Pen support on the newer model, but that's just about it. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 stands tall amongst all of its competitors that have the same form factor. Samsung gave the device the push it needed to establish deterrence in the market yet again. It returned the wow factor to the lineup and that was enough to get millions of people to open up their wallets. However, how will the device's successor fare next year when the scale of upgrades won't be as drastic? It will be dropped in a very competitive landscape, one that may include Apple's first foldable iPhone, a phone that the fruit company's fans and tech enthusiasts have long been looking forward to. There's no question that Apple tends to inch ahead in the perception war, no matter how late it is in adapting to industry trends or whether the execution is as nice as Samsung's. It has an edge over all of its Android rivals, not just Samsung, and the captive user base that's within the walled garden of its ecosystem is big enough to make its devices a success. Even though the first generation foldable iPhone would be going up against the very mature Galaxy Z Fold lineup that's been around for over half a decade, there's bound to more hype around the first foldable iPhone. No doubt, Apple's snazzy marketing is going to position the device as some sort of a breakthrough while many companies on the Android side of the fence have been pushing out foldable phones like nobody's business. Samsung needs to establish deterrence over the foldable iPhone and the best way it can do that is to provide an option that Apple just can't at this stage. Enter the trifold. Samsung's long-rumored trifold phone, likely called the Galaxy Z TriFold, is expected to be launched before the end of this year. Rumor has it that it will only be launched in limited quantities, potentially 100,000 units may be available in very few markets. Samsung just wants to test the waters before it goes with a global launch next year. It's not like Samsung couldn't go for a global launch on day one, it's probably taking the wind out of Apple's sails before the first foldable iPhone is even launched, and then leaving the global release to rain on its parade in 2026. This flips the perception because you can't help but notice that while Apple's only just launching its first foldable phone, Samsung has gone a step above and entered the trifold realm, something which even not a lot of Android OEMs have done yet. It consistently puts the message out that why do Apple fans have to wait for their beloved company to catch up with the rest when they have a superior and more technologically advanced foldable experience on Samsung?Next year's Galaxy Z Fold phone will no doubt be developed keeping the foldable iPhone in mind to ensure that it takes on Apple's contender with all of its might. In my view, though, the knock out punch will be delivered by the trifold. It will exhibit how Apple has been shamefully complacent in the race to conquer the next frontier in smartphone development. Who knows what Samsung will be coming out with by the time Apple gets to trifold iPhones. The post Putting Apple to shame is why the Galaxy Z TriFold even exists appeared first on SamMobile.
