For a good reason, it's dangerous enterprise. I know a story of two amateurs who attempted to do it themselves, starting at the bottom. That thing collapsed and one of them ended up with plenty of broken bones and the other one as an invalid for the rest of his life. I know someone who got away with taking down the chimney of his house, but he started from the top and removed the layers of bricks very carefully.
