(File Photo)A two-day session of Tripura’s Legislative Assembly will begin from Friday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath said on Monday, adding that there would be no session on September 22 in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state.“As the Speaker is absent, the Deputy Speaker will preside over the session. The session will be held on September 19 and 23. The decision to have a two-day session was made due to the upcoming Durga Puja festival,” Nath told reporters after a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, attended by representatives of the BJP, the TIPRA Motha, and the Opposition CPM and Congress.Nath said the Assembly session would witness three private member resolutions, the introduction of four Bills, and a question-and-answer session. The Bills are the Tripura State Goods and Services Tax Amendment Bill, the New Tripura Janabiswas Provision Bill, the Factories (Second Amendment) Bill 2025, and the Tripura Shops and Establishments (Seventh Amendment) Bill.“There will be a private member’s resolution. On the first day, there will be a question-answer session and four Bills will be placed. Discussion on the Bills, if any, will be held on September 23,” the minister said.Asked whether the Assembly session can be run in the absence of Assembly Speaker Biswabandhu Sen, Nath said, “It’s in the Constitution; it’s in the Rules. We work by following the Constitution. So, the House will convene even if the Speaker and the deputy speaker are not present due to some unknown reasons. There is a provision for that.”Biswabandhu Sen underwent an operation after being diagnosed with an internal brain haemorrhage last month. He was rushed to a private hospital at Agartala on August 8 after he fell unconscious at the Badharghat railway station on the outskirts of the city, where he was about to board a train to travel to Dharmanagar in North Tripura district.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Narendra ModiTripura
