However, a few are always busy opposing the development work. Also, it has come out in a survey that several lakh crores are spent on elections in the country. Through one election, we can save this money of taxpayers.”While promoting the ‘Student for One Nation One Election’ campaign, he said, “Due to the non-simultaneous holding of Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the country, with the Model Code of Conduct in place, the policy decisions and their implementation get delayed, leading to a delay in development works.”He further said, “During the election process, several man hours of the army, paramilitary forces, police, school teachers and government employees are wasted. If the elections are held simultaneously, there will be savings in expenses and that money can be used for development works. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to One Nation One Election in the interest of the country. Countries like Germany, France and the US have simultaneous elections,” Sanghavi said.Surendra Singh Nagar, MP from Uttar Pradesh and one of the invited dignitaries for the event, said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) currently has enough numbers to pass the One Nation One Election bill in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to make the One Nation One Election campaign a mass movement and take it to all sections of the society, informing all the citizens of the country how important it is for the nation.“The youth of the country will give response to the misinformation the Opposition is spreading among people on this issue. In 1967, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had misused Article 356 to overthrow the elected governments of the states, due to which the practice of simultaneous elections was disrupted. In 1984, the Election Commission had also recommended the same (simultaneous elections),” he said. “The matter of holding simultaneous elections has been included in the BJP’s resolution for a long time. In 2023, the committee formed under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind presented its report and listed the reasons for holding simultaneous elections,” he added.Sanghavi said holding simultaneous elections will reduce election-related expenses, allow teachers to give full attention to students, and contribute to environment conservation. Against the waste of election expenses, the education budget can be increased by 33 per cent or the health budget by 50 per cent, he added.Story continues below this adSpeaking on this occasion, youth leader Prashant Korat said that just as Sardar Patel unified India after Independence, similarly PM Modi is devoting his life to making India a better country.Sharing information about the upcoming programme, he said that on September 17, on the occasion of the PM’s 75th birthday, a marathon has been organised at 10 places across the state under Namo Yuva Run, in which all the youths have been invited to join. The state convener of One Nation One Election, Anil Patel, said that more than 60,000 people have taken note of the issue through conferences in 182 assemblies across the state, adding they are arriving at a consensus. He appealed to all the young leaders to involve as many people as possible in the One Nation One Election campaign in their respective areas.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:ahmedabad
