The top leadership of Palestinian militant group Hamas has survived the Israeli airstrike in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday, an official has claimed. Khalil al-Hayya and other Hamas leaders who were meeting to discuss US President Donald Trump’s ceasefire proposal were the target of the Israeli airstrike in the Qatari capital.Suhail al-Hindi, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, told Al Jazeera that the group’s leadership was unhurt in the attack. A total of five people have been killed in the airstrike, including Humam and Jihad Labad Abu Bilal, the director of al-Hayya’s office, and three bodyguards.Qatari soldier killedQatar’s Interior Ministry on Tuesday said a member of the country’s security forces was killed and others were injured at the site of the Israeli strikes.“Specialised crews are continuing to inspect and secure the targeted area with the explosives division of the internal security forces,” the ministry said.Qatar suspends Gaza mediationResponding to the airstrike, Qatar also said it has suspended its mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas toward a Gaza hostage and ceasefire deal. Throughout the conflict Qatar has served as a key negotiator in efforts to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip.Israel confidant about killing Hamas leadersThe Hamas official’s comments contradict the Israeli claim of the airstrike being successful.
