Delhi Police busts fake visa racket, arrests 3 men

According to police, the accused would pose as Visa consultants and VFS (Visa Facilitation Services) Global employees to trick victims. The accused created a website, and used a USA based whatsapp number to lure victims, officers added.“The accused have been identified as Deepak Pandey, Yash Singh and Wasim Akram. The accused were involved in a massive scam where they extorted large sums of money from foreign job seekers, promising them appointment letters and visas to various countries,” said Vikram Singh, DCP, Crime Branch.The men were arrested from their office situated in Zamrudpur, Delhi.The alleged scam came to light after a complaint was lodged by Anand Singh, a consultant at VFS Global, a firm that provides outsourcing and technology services for visa, passport, and consular services worldwide.The complaint alleges that certain individuals or a group engaged in fraudulent activities by targeting people seeking overseas employment.It further claims that the accused men falsely impersonated officials of VFS Global, thereby deceiving victims and extracting money under the pretence of offering visa and job processing services.“During the course of the investigation, the prime accused, Deepak Pandey, admitted that the scheme was designed to impersonate VFS Global and offer fake visa facilitation services, ” Singh said.Story continues below this adAs per the police, the accused men purchased a domain name: paramountoversease.co.in in 2021 via an online platform.To establish credibility, the domain claimed that the business had physical offices in Nehru Place and Janakpuri, Delhi, police said.In a bid to lure victims, the police said, the accused created fake social media profiles and advertisements, and misused the VFS Global logo.Following the complaint, the police identified at least 4-5 victims. One of the victims claimed that he had been duped of Rs 3.16 lakhs under the promise of offering visas to different countries.Story continues below this adDCP Singh noted that Pandey’s responsibilities included interacting with victims, managing WhatsApp communications, and coordinating medical appointments as well as fee collection.The co-accused Yash and Akram were involved in drafting and designing forged documents, including work visa applications, employment confirmation, ICA (Immigration and Checkpoints Authority), creating and editing Form-16, preparing PCC (Police Clearance Certificate) application forms etc, officers added.The police team analysed numerous email IDs, fake SIM cards, IP addresses used by the accused and extensive bank account records to trace the men to their office in Zamrudpur, officers said.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Delhi Police Crime Branchfake visa
