Spoilers ahead.Last episode, Belly flew to Paris as Jeremiah dealt with the fallout from their canceled wedding. Meanwhile, Conrad decided to finally give everyone some space and head back to California. This week, season 3, episode 10 covers a lot of ground for the Fishers and Conklins, covering their year of recovery. But some people are recovering more slowly than others.It’s now Thanksgiving and Belly is in Paris with a job, an apartment, and roommates who can’t seem to stand her cooking. In fact, her roommates don’t seem to like her at all, or the smell of her stuffing for her “genocidal holiday.”In voiceover, Belly says living in Paris is the first time she is doing something “truly on her own” in her entire life. After three months, she’s pretty skeptical of her capacity for continuing with the experiment. Bravely, she heads to the boulangerie to order chocolate croissants in French, only to be responded to in English. She attends school online, while working several crap jobs under the table. (It’s pretty surprising she has any jobs at all, because Belly’s French is truly terrible.)She does still have her friends she first met at the rave, but they’re also suspicious of Belly’s cooking. She explains to them the concept of Friendsgiving, then admits to being homesick and lonely, knowing the people she loves back in America will all be together today. Her new pals try to get her to go home for a visit, at least for Christmas, but she feels she isn’t ready. If she goes home, she might not come back. Instead, she must stay and unclog French toilets to build character.That night, she FaceTimes Taylor, who is making dinner with Steven. It’s hard to get privacy in her shared apartment living room with no headphones on and Taylor is also interrupted by an amorous Steven. Belly tries to give Taylor a better interpretation of her current situation and equivocates about coming home for the December holiday. She wants Taylor to come to Paris for New Year’s. It doesn’t take much to convince her, so now Belly has something to look forward to.Amazon PrimeMeanwhile, Jeremiah making out with a random girl quite aggressively against the kitchen island. Apparently, he’s kissing a mutual friend’s girlfriend, based on the reaction from another buddy who walks in to see it. Friendsgiving only gets more awkward from there. Taylor reveals she is going to Paris after telling Jere to process his feelings in a more normal way. Jere is not willing to leave Steven’s couch and go back to Finch and he’s not responding to any of Conrad’s many texts. He did, however, cook a huge dinner and Denise arrives with Adam, a surprise guest crashing the kids’ meal.Adam was supposed to be at Kayleigh’s parents’ place, but he won’t explain why he didn’t join her. He did bring champagne from Jere and Belly’s canceled wedding and instantly brings the vibe down. First he honors Steven and Denise as “loyal” employees, a jab at Jere for not taking the job at Breaker. Then Redbird unintentionally reveals that Jere has not been at the fraternity house at Finch or even attending classes like he promised his father.Jere and Adam have it out over his various lies, as well as Jere backing out of his apartment with Belly, the wedding, and school. Adam decides to financially cut off his youngest son, telling him he has to make his own way. Jere later complains to the group about being called a “deadbeat.” Unfortunately, they kinda think he is. Things seem quite cozy and domestic between the divorced couple. Conrad calls to doublecheck it’s okay for him to come home for Christmas. He’s concerned about Jere not wanting him there, though it is a bit of a cover for asking about Belly and her plans.After Laurel implies Belly will likely be gone for a while, he wonders if he should check in on her. Laurel tells Conrad to reach out if he wants to know, which according to him, is what his therapist has been saying. He goes back to celebrating his solo Thanksgiving of studying before looking at the old Polaroid of him and Belly at Cousins.Getting out a pad of paper, he writes her a letter. He tells her he tries to imagine her life abroad, drinking at a café, and enjoying herself. His V.O. wishes her a Merry Christmas as she enjoys the pleasures of the city under light snow and festive lights.She seems pleased by the letter, but doesn’t respond. On Christmas Eve, Belly closes up the restaurant solo, then texts Jere to greet him Merry Christmas. Bubbles appear, but he doesn’t reply. She drinks wine and dances by herself, unknowingly observed by her friend Benito. He smiles and knocks, sharing that he was unable to head to London as planned due to a train strike. She invites him in and offers a glass of wine.He calls her plans for drinking and eating chocolate that night “uninspired,” and tries to convinces her to do a walking tour of Paris in the snow after reciting some Pablo Neruda. They play darts to decide their plans; though Belly wins, she changes her mind and they head out. Benito has a saucy little red Vespa, but Belly is against drunk driving. Unless she’s the one doing it. He teaches her to scoot and they’re off.Amazon PrimeConrad is in Cousins with the rest of the Conklins that night, all waiting on Jeremiah to arrive from his shift at the restaurant. Yes, the youngest Fisher brother has a job. Conrad asks Steven if everyone hates him. Jere does, says Steven, but not him. Things are just uncomfortable. Conrad’s therapist is clearly putting the work in, because he’s able to openly admit how hard this has been and how much he misses everyone. He also shares that he and Taylor have ironically become closer since she’s the only one regularly talking to him.Steven receives a concerning message about losing funding for his business and calls Denise, who doesn’t pick up. Adam arrives in time to almost overhear, and apparently he already knows that Denise and Steven have been planning to jump ship with their own project. He’s the one who stopped the funding via a friend, but he’s not firing them. That’s not good enough for Steven and he quits. Adam appears to respect that, but who knows what this man is capable of.Conrad visits Belly’s old room to pine, looking at her stuffed polar bear. Finally, Jeremiah pulls into the driveway, but he won’t get out of the car. Laurel goes to talk to him; he seems frozen in his Jeep, emotionally and literally. He admits the house is ruined for him because of Conrad and Belly and feels resentful that he has “lost everyone.” Laurel assures him she is there for him, and he apologizes for how cruel he was at the wedding. She shit-talks his dad, making him laugh. Denise seems optimistic about her future prosperity, despite Adam’s meddling. Jere tells her about bailing on dinner, unable to see Conrad again. Denise offers the support Jere needs, who says in a way, it’s harder to process Belly leaving than his mom’s death.Denise tells him to accept what happened and to forgive everyone, including Belly and Conrad, because it just holds power over him. He seems surprised to learn Denise has had her heart broken before. They realize they’re pretty good friends and Denise drags him to her family’s Christmas dinner.Back in Paris, Belly welcomes Taylor for their New Year’s plans. They enjoy coffee, pastries, wine, and fashion, with Benito included in some of the fun. On New Year’s Eve, both dressed in silver, they decorate Belly’s apartment for a party. Taylor talks about her plans to live with Steven post-graduation and then brings up Benito, who is quite noticeably cute. Taylor is trying to hook them up, emphasizing the importance of the classic rebound. And then Jere calls.Belly answers and Jere is calling from his job in a restaurant kitchen. They make casual conversation about escargot before Belly tells him how glad she is to hear from him. She apologizes again and shares how much she regrets what happened, but Jere doesn’t want to talk about it. He tells her he’s good and hopes for the best for her, too. It seems like a moment of closure rather than a new beginning.Now 42% OffLater, the party is popping off with a house full of strangers. Benito arrives to flirt and with a delivery he found downstairs from Conrad. Belly reveals to Taylor that he’s “been writing.” They open the care package and it contains Belly’s favorites: Sour Patch kids and her polar bear, Junior Mint, wearing the haunted eternity necklace. Taylor is suspicious, asking if this is why Belly hasn’t ridden more than Benito’s Vespa.Belly says she isn’t afraid of being hurt again, she’s afraid of hurting someone else. Taylor tells her to accept that these things are a part of life and her past chapters are closed. As the clock counts down, Belly grabs Benito for a dramatic midnight kiss under the glitter. He responds enthusiastically.Jumping forward to spring, Belly and Benito wake up in bed together, only to be interrupted by her roommates. But at least she can speak to them in French now. Belly’s language skills have increased dramatically, though her roommates still seem to hate her.Later, while helping Gemma move in with her girlfriend, Belly shares that Benito is asking her to join him in Mexico for a trip this summer, but she is planning a return to the U.S. for the Finch graduation. That is, until Gemma offers her to rent her place. Laurel calls to ask about Belly’s trip and visa, and Belly says there’s a year-long psych program at the Sorbonne and a job at a university with a sports program. This could be Belly’s life and she is thinking about it.Laurel is supportive, to Belly’s surprise. She can hear her daughter has found something special and wants her to be happy. Belly is so happy, in fact, she has forgotten the anniversary of Susannah’s death. They talk about how excited Susannah would be for her to be in Paris and after hanging up, Belly looks through old pictures of them together.She thinks back to talking about traveling with Susannah as a child. At the time, Belly didn’t want to go far from Cousins or Conrad, but Susannah promised her that one day she might want to see more of the world. Though he and Belly seem to have repaired their relationship somewhat, the Fisher brothers have not. Conrad didn’t expect to see him there, but they share some thoughts about losing memories of their mom. Conrad then says he knows he can’t get Jere to forgive him, but he won’t stop trying.Jere accuses him of being a snake the summer of their wedding, trying to seduce Belly. Conrad denies it, then mentions Jere’s cheating in Cabo. Jere reveals he knew about Conrad and Belly’s secret Christmas as a comeback. Conrad doesn’t hold back, saying that Belly isn’t an object and the only reason there was a wedding is because Jere was trying to possess Belly. He also says that Jere is one to talk, starting to date Belly a month after Conrad and she broke up all those years ago. These brothers are pretty alike, in a way.Conrad tells Jere he promised their mom he’d try to protect him before she passed, and Jere laughs bitterly. He also promised something to Susannah—that he wouldn’t let anything get in between them. They’ve both fucked up. Somehow, this helps them see eye to eye and they embrace.Jere asks if Conrad and Belly have talked. She hasn’t reached out to him since the wedding, Conrad says, but he has continued to write her letters. Jeremiah admits that Conrad and Belly had something he couldn’t compete with, and he tells him to “do what you have to do.”Conrad writes Belly another letter, sharing that he and Jere are talking again. He tells her that it hurts that she and Jere were talking first. And that he loves her.Benito is helping Belly move into her new place and set up her bed. She seems to be considering going with him to Mexico, but wants to spend her first night in the apartment solo. Drinking wine, she finally responds to one of Conrad’s letters. All she really tells him is her new permanent address in Paris.Summer comes and Conrad is packing up for a medical conference in Brussels. He and Agnes discuss how close he will be to Paris. She looks over Belly’s postcard and considers whether he should go see her or not. She knows Conrad might regret it either way, so he might as well give Belly a visit.Conrad pays almost $500 dollars to rebook his flight through Paris, not having heard of Europe’s robust train system.
